As many as you can get. 🙂

Stay consistent. Keep a schedule and build up your links over time. Don't rely too heavily on directory links. Remember that the harder a link is to get, the more valuable it usually is.

Casey got the definition of inbound links vs. # of linking domains right, so let me just add a couple of points.

If you look at correlation ranking factors, the number of linking root domains correlates higher to good rankings than the number of raw links. As our friend at Seattle Organic pointed out, it's much better to have 100 linking domains than 100 links from one site.

I wouldn't worry so much about the 1:1 ratio. That's a situation that will take care of itself as you build links.

Best of luck with your SEO!

Also, just fyi Pedro, but I think domains is more important of a metric in general from all the work I've done.  Each domain is a unique website and most likely a better vote than 100 links from the same website.  These days there are footer links or sidebar links in a lot of Content Management Systems (cms's) and they replicate multiple links from multiple blog posts or pages on the site.  So, you may seen 1000+ links from one website.  However, in my humble opinion and from what I've seen over many websites, google is counting the domains you're getting links from more than they are all the different links from the individual domains.

For example, let's equate links to fans.  If you had 100 fans, but one of those fans gave you 100 complements, how would an outsider take each of those complements.  I would argue the outsider (i.e., Google) would give credit to the one fan & not necessarily the 99 extra complements.  While it's great to see all the 100 complements from an outsider's perspective, most likely that outsider would give you credit for just the one fan complementing you.  Does that make sense?

Right, personally I have never seen a aged website with the same linking domains as inbound links.

I am not saying its bad, I just havent seen it and wouldn't recommend that because of that observation. Dont go crazy over it as obviously you cant get multiple links from every source you find.

                      Hi Casey,

Tks for the aswer. One last question thow. Your saying to not keep doing link-building with 1:1 ratio. Does that makes Google wondering?

                      Tks in advance,

Linking domains is the total number of domains linking back to you.

Inbound links is the total number or links you actually have. Each domain could be linking to you from different pages on their site, adding up to the total "inbound links".

I think its important to have both. You obviously dont want 1 domain bringing you 1,000 inbound links. If you build up your linking domains, total inbound links will naturally rise. Just dont keep it at a 1:1 ratio

UTM Links Showing Up as Separate Pages in Google Analytics

Hey everyone, I was just looking at landing pages in Google Analytics, and in addition to just the URL of the landing page, the UTM links are being listed as separate pages. Is this normal? I anticipated seeing the landing page URL and then using the secondary dimension to see source/medium. If this isn't normal, what would I check next?

Fixing Bounce Rate between Domain and Subdomain

Currently, the way our site is set up, our clients generally visit our homepage and then login through a separate page that is a subdomain, or they can read our blog/support articles that are also on separate subdomains. From my understanding, this can be counted as a bounce, and I know this sorta of site structure isn't ideal, but with our current dev resources and dependencies, fixing this isn't going to happen overnight. Regardless, what would be the easiest way to implement this fix witihn the Google Analytics code? EX: If someone visits our site at X.com, and then wants to login at portal.X.com, I don't want to count that as a bounce. Any insight is appreciated! Thanks

Google Analytics: Different stats for date range vs single month?

I've been scratching my head, chin, and you name it over this one. I have an advanced segment to remove bot traffic from my data. When I look at the Audience Overview data for a single month (let's say Aug). I am shown a session count. No problems here, however If I set the date range to (January - August). The august monthly stats is incorrect, much lower. What this means is that, if I export a CSV report from Jan-Aug, the data is wrong compared to individually recording a month. Anyone faced this? I've asked the question over at the Google Analytics technical section as well, but no answer P.S I even used the 'control the number of sessions used to calculate this report' tool but no luck.

                          Lost rankings after disavowing links

About two months ago, I received an unnatural inbound links message from Google. Then I disavowed 58 (the worst ones) and now I can see that right after the date I submitted my disavow file I'm losing rankings. What would you suggest? I don't really want to revoke my disavow file because it has totally bad links. I  have  this idea to build 58 links from high quality sites (instead of the 58 I disavowed). Do you think it'll work faster (if at all) or I just need to remove my disavow file?

Google Analytics VS target="_blank" internal links: How much wrong is it?

I am working on an e-commerce website, and our CEO is sure that having target="_blank" in internal search result is boosting the conversion (not sure, but it's not an issue at the moment). The problem is that Google Analytics sees all URLs visited from search results as entrances/direct visits, hence the Booking Funnel Tracking does not work as it was supposed to. Is there any way to recover the tracking? Or we shall get the rid of target="_blank" attribute?

                          Google as referring domain

Hi all, a colleague asked a question, which I could not answer (never even noticed this "problem") 😞 When we are logged into our GA account and go the referring domains section, we find Google. I always thought that these visitors came via Google Image Search, but not all of them do. Most of them come via "/imgres", but some come via "/" (always thought that "/" was the homepage?), "/url" and "//" Maybe I am just stupid, but honestly I could not explain what these strings mean... or how these visitors landed on our site... Can you help me???

Open internal links in a new tab increase bonus rate?

Hello! This week I used a simple method to reduce my blog Google Analytics bounce rate. My blog all the posts are guides, in order to follow them, user need to download a zip file (same zip file). Otherwise they can't. Therefore I added a separate blog post to download all the necessary files. As a result of that I can reduce my bounce rate from 62-70% to 45-50% level. Now I'm thinking to open that zip file download page in a new tab. If I open my blog zip file download page, in a new tab. It will again increase my bounce rate? I reduced my bounce rate using that zip file download page. Thanks!
