I heard Matt Cutts on a video say that meta description is not a ranking factor anymore. But have the same meta description repeat many times throughout your site can sound like a spam site. I personally would write different meta description. If it's only a couple hundred, just hack it out and get it over with. If it's in the thousands, well you have a problem.

Yes, because it make sense for both the users and Google. Google is against duplicate description all over your site for home page, contact, about and product pages just because that will impact the users in a negative way. In your case, like in zazzle.com it dose make sense. It will be weird and un-helpful just to change the description so you don't have duplicates or just change slight words again for the same reason.

I have to disagree - I still strongly suggest not to focus to much on this issue in your case - but this is why this filed is exciting different opinions and approaches different opinions and approaches If the description for the product is the same why changing it ? We should do this for the user not google if we want to keep everything clean and white. And in this case for the user it dose make sense to have the same description.

Yeah that should be fine. Sorry, you didn't mention before how closely related the products were. Just try to keep the description as unique as you can, as hard as that might be when exact same product but a different colour.

Hi The problem we have is the only difference is the design printed on the case the actual case itself is the same as all the others made out of the same material etc etc. So we presumed google looks at just the title etc. So if we just changed the words slightly to each other or just describe the image would this be okay

Hi David, If it's exactly the same description used for different products then yes, it still counts as duplicate content. Why are you not writing unique descriptions? It would be much more informative for the customer if the description was specific to the product they wished to purchase. Multiple product pages with the same description is a large problem now with Google Panda. Avoid doing it.

For sure it dosen't count as duplicate content ! The only down side is the CTR in search results pages - if having the same description your user could be confused then it's a problem if not then it's 100% ok. Hope it helps.

How good/bad the exit intent pop-ups? What is Google's perspective?
Hi all, We have launched the exit intent pop-ups on our website where a pop-up will appear when the visitor is about to leave the website. This will trigger when the mouse is moved to the top window section; as an attempt by the visitor to close the window. We see a slight ranking drop post this pop-up launch. As the pop-up is appearing just before someone leaves the website; does this making Google to see as if the user left because of the pop-up and penalizing us? What is your thoughts and suggestions on this? Thanks White Hat / Black Hat SEO | | vtmoz1

Question regarding subdomains and duplicate content
Hey everyone, I have another question regarding duplicate content. We are planning on launching a new sector in our industry to satisfy a niche. Our main site works as a directory with listings with NAP. The new sector that we are launching will be taking all of the content on the main site and duplicating it on a subdomain for the new sector. We still want the subdomain to rank organically, but I'm having struggles between putting a rel=canonical back to main site, or doing a self-referencing canonical, but now I have duplicates. The other idea is to rewrite the content on each listing so that the menu items are still the same, but the listing description is different. Do you think this would be enough differentiating content that it won't be seen as a duplicate? Obviously make this to be part of the main site is the best option, but we can't do that unfortunately. Last question, what are the advantages or disadvantages of doing a subdomain? White Hat / Black Hat SEO | | imjonny0

		Preventing CNAME Site Duplications
Hello fellow mozzers! Let me see if I can explain this properly. First, our server admin is out of contact at the moment, White Hat / Black Hat SEO | | David-Kley
so we are having to take this project on somewhat blind. (forgive the ignorance of terms). We have a client that needs a cname record setup, as they need a sales.DOMAIN.com to go to a different
provider of data. They have a "store" platform that is hosted elsewhere and they require a cname to be
sent to a custom subdomain they set up on their end. My question is, how do we prevent the cname from being indexed along with the main domain? If we
process a redirect for the subdomain, then the site will not be able to go out and grab the other providers
info and display it. Currently, if you type in the sales.DOMAIN.com it shows the main site's homepage.
That cannot be allow to take place as we all know, having more than one domain with
exact same content = very bad for seo. I'd rather not rely on Google to figure it out. Should we just have the cname host (where its pointing at) add a robots rule and have it set to not index
the cname? The store does not need to be indexed, as the items are changed almost daily. Lastly, is an A record required for this type of situation in any way? Forgive my ignorance of subdomains, cname records and related terms. Our server admin being
unavailable is not helping this project move along any. Any advice on the best way to handle
 this would be very helpful!0

		Indexing content behind a login
Hi, I manage a website within the pharmaceutical industry where only healthcare professionals are allowed to access the content. For this reason most of the content is behind a login. My challenge is that we have a massive amount of interesting and unique content available on the site and I want the healthcare professionals to find this via Google! At the moment if a user tries to access this content they are prompted to register / login. My question is that if I look for the Google Bot user agent and allow this to access and index the content will this be classed as cloaking? I'm assuming that it will. If so, how can I get around this? We have a number of open landing pages but we're limited to what indexable content we can have on these pages! I look forward to all of your suggestions as I'm struggling for ideas now! Thanks Steve White Hat / Black Hat SEO | | stever9990

Tags on WordPress Sites, Good or bad?
My main concern is about the entire tags strategy. The whole concept has really been first seen by myself on WordPress which seems to be bringing positive results to these sites and now there are even plugins that auto generate tags. Can someone detail more about the pros and cons of tags? I was under the impression that google does not want 1000's of pages auto generated just because of a simple tag keyword, and then show relevant content to that specific tag. Usually these are just like search results pages... how are tag pages beneficial? Is there something going on behind the scenes with wordpress tags that actually bring benefits to these wp blogs? Setting a custom coded tag feature on a custom site just seems to create numerous spammy pages. I understand these pages may be good from a user perspective, but what about from an SEO perspective and getting indexed and driving traffic... Indexed and driving traffic is my main concern here, so as a recap I'd like to understand the pros and cons about tags on wp vs custom coded sites, and the correct way to set these up for SEO purposes. Rollover design & SEO
After reading this article http://www.seomoz.org/blog/designing-for-seo some questions came up from my developers. In the article it says "One potential solution to this problem is a mouse-over. Initially when viewed, the panel will look as it does on the left hand side (exactly as the designer want it), yet when a user rolls over the image the panel changes into what you see on the right hand side (exactly what the SEO wants)." My developers say" Having text in the rollovers is almost like hiding text and everyone knows in SEO that you should never hide text. "In the article he explains that it is not hidden text since its visible & readable by the engines. What are everyone's thoughts on this? Completely acceptable or iffy? Thanks White Hat / Black Hat SEO | | DCochrane0
