I've been tasked with finding the keywords for our website.  The difficulty I'm finding is receiving help from the fabrication personal to suggest keywords.  I'm not sure if its peoples imagination or if there's a general unwillingness.

Can anyone make any suggestions here?  Is there a fabrication or welding keyword database I can put to them and hopefully get their brains working?

Or even a way to see what keywords our competitors use?

Hi Martin, Thanks for the further explanation of your business model. You are right - Local SEO is not the right match for you, so the tool isn't helpful.

                Thanks for the reply 🙂

I'm not sure Google places would help our business and correct me if I'm wrong.  We're not a company that people visit for sales.  We're onsite fabrication and we also manufacture products to sell all over the UK and occasionally abroad.  How would it help us?

By entering the URL of a website in the Website box in Google keywords tool, you are instructing Google to go and get the keywords hints from the URL to come up with the list of related keywords and phrases. So as Wikipedia pages cover any topic comprehensively, there is a good chance that the keyword list prepared this way will give you a solid head start for your current job at hand.

                  Best regards,

                  Devanur Rafi.

                      Hi Martin,
You've received some very good replies here from members. I'll just add that if you are branching into competitive analysis of local competitors, you might like to check out 51 Blocks' competitive analysis tool, which is free:

Go to a list broker company like www.infousa.com, they have a nice classification of industries as a part of the list selection process and you can find sub categories related to your industry type. That's another way of finding closely related keywords.

                        Here is the Link.

Hi Martin, you can do one thing. Just go to Google AdWords keywords tool and make sure you are logged in to your Google account.

Once inside the tool, set the settings to All Locations and All Languages, type the following in the Website box: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welding

Hit Search. Export all the keywords and repeat the process for the following URL typed in the Website box:

                          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_fabrication

Try to look for other related topic on Wikipedia and repeat the process till you have good list.

                          Hope this helps.

                          Regards,

                          Devanur Rafi.

Unfortunately Amazon is a product company and we are in a service industry so couldnt get any names from them.  I see your point about being creative, I've through about searching job boards for descriptions such as http://www.totaljobs.com/JobSeeking/Fabrication.html

Can you think of anything else that may help?

Thanks the Google Keywords is useful.  I've also visited SEMRush typed in a list of our competitors and not very information out of it.  It might be because our competitors are not very active on-line.

The SEMoz keyword analyser isn't working at the moment so we cant check that out.

Our other big problem is that we work in a lot of different industries such as energy, power stations, Nuclear, transportation ect. How can we get a list of industries for metal fabrications?

Hi Martin, you can take the steps outlined by SEO5 and also you can visit Amazon.com, search for the keywords, 'welding' and 'fabrication', take a note of the items that come up in the search, visit the product page of each of these products and also note the itemsthat Amazon mentions under the heading, 'people who bought also bought'. Put all these terms in Google AdWords keywords tool and bingo, you will have a very good list of related terms. Put your brain in to this a bit deep and add your creativity to further enhance the list. Sometimes, the shopping sites and specialized online portals for a particular product or niche can give you more than you can ever imagine while doing keyword research analysis and I do it all the time and the results will be outstanding as per my experience. Good luck.

                                  Regards,

                                  Devanur.

Ask to speak with the receptionist or the person who takes most of the incoming calls for the business.  This person hears the language used by people who ask for their services.  These people often know more about the keywords to target than management.

You can use Google's keyword suggestion tool , type in fabrication and welding in the keyword list and the website , check the box that says "only show ideas closely related to my search terms" . You should be able to pull a good keyword list using this tool.

In addition to this tool you can also use SEM Rush , type in the client's website and see what keywords they are ranking for that are related to your site. You can also use the keyword analysis tool from SEOMOZ.

What keywords should I choose if I have 3 similar products, only the value differs?
It is recommended to use the same keyword, and change the value? Example: Product 1: $ 100 discount coupon
                                        Keyword: $ 100 discount coupon Product 2: $ 75 discount coupon

Keyword:? Any advice? Thank you, Sergio K.

Bye Bye Keyword Difficulty Tool :(

So the Keyword Difficulty Tool will be retired from the end of this month. Is anyone else worried about this? - because I just don't trust the numbers coming back from Keyword Explorer. Never have. I've even raised this with Moz staff previously, when there was a huge difference between the score given by the keyword difficulty tool vs keyword explorer. From what I see in Domain and Page authority and in the SERPs then the score from keyword difficulty tool, was always more accurate, and thankfully have been able to use both tools, but from next month I feel somewhat uneasy about solely relying on the score from Keyword Explorer. Thoughts? and feel free to run your own tests on keywords and I'm sure you'll see what I mean.

Does anyone have any experience in multilingual SEO? We are looking for software that conducts research for GEO Locations such as UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan & India. Writing content for each of these countries is difficult unless we speak their language, we could look at outsourcing the translation but conducting keyword research for each location is almost impossible.

Like others, I have also been oblivious to the options which were uncovered in this article, using stars or underscores to uncover more keywords suggestions. However, I am trying to find a way to avoid the manual labour. Did any of you find a successful tool that automatically adds all the possible combinations of these wildcards to give a comprehensive lists of suggestions? I am looking for a tool that also included my country (.nl).

                                        Setting Up a Keyword Matrix

Greetings MOZ community!! My real estate web site contains about 500 pages with perhaps 70 pages targeting low volume, somewhat valuable but not very competitive keywords. Three to four URLs target very competitive terms. The following  terms are among the most valuable: New York City office space,
                                        New York office space,
                                        Manhattan office space,
NYC office space Such variants as: Office space in New York City,
                                        Office space in New York,
                                        Office space in Manhattan,
                                        Office space in NYC
ETCETERA convert really well How would I match different terms to different URLs? For example I have just re-written the following two critical URLs: www.nyc-officespace-leader.com (home page)
http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/commercial-space/office-space (product page) Would it make sense to use "Manhattan office space" and variants on the home page while excluding "New York City office space" variants? At the same time I would use "New York City office space" variants on the "office-space" product page while excluding all mention of "Manhattan office space". Is this logical and does it conform to SEO best practices? For the "NYC office space" terms I would add them to http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/listings. This URL has almost no text but a strong potential to rent because of a high number of incoming internal links. Is this approach sensible? In general what measures should I take to prevent URLs from competing for the same keywords? Also, is there a software package or tools that I can use to come up with keyword variants? As a non SEO professional, can I create my own keyword matrix or is this really in the realm of a professional SEO consultant? Thanks, Alan

Accuracy of search volume for keyword planner v old keyword tool?

Hi there, I'm (logged into Google Adwords)  and researching search volume for keywords but I'm seeing weird results. I know that the term "outage notification" had between 1000 and 5000 monthly global searches when I last looked (I know this because I add a search volume tag to the keywords I track ranking of via Moz).  Yet, now when I check global search volume via keyword planner I'm seeing only 70 global searches per month (AND low competition which I know is not true).  Is this perhaps because only the exact match is reported or is something else going on? Very frustrated as I have now lost faith in the keyword research process via Google keyword planner....not sure where to go from here!! Thanks very much

                                        Keywords for multi service business?

New to this so bear with, I am a TV aerial, satellite, CCTV, Door entry, Access Control, Telephone repair engineer. I have one seperate page for each of the installations I carry out as well as the basic home, about, areas, faqs and so on. My question is do i have one key phrase for each of the services  i cover or do i just relate all the keywords from that service into the keywords tag ie, META name=keywords content="Digial aerials Stockport, digital aerials Manchester, aerials Stockport, aerials Manchester, aerial repairs Stockport, aerial repairs Manchester, digital, aerial,tv,tv aerials Manchester,tv aerials Stockport, arials, arial, aerial installer, aerial installations, aeril installation,Stockport,Manchester ,"> That is what i have fro Tv aerial installation, Should i make landing pages for each phrase for each service or stick to one page? www.redvalecommunications.co.uk is the site if you want to take a look thanks in advance
