We have different websites targeted at the different services our company provides. (e.g. For our document storage services, we have www.ukdocumentstorage.com. For document management, we have www.document-management-solutions.co.uk).

If we take the storage site for example, every single page has a link in the footer to our document management site, with the anchor text 'Cleardata Document Management'

SEOMoz is telling me that these are seen as external links (as they are on a different URL's), and I'm just clarifying that would this be a major possible factor in the website not ranking highly?

How should I rectify this issue?

            Irving,

Would all of our rankings be down because we have a majority of backlinks having exactly the same anchor text?

            Thanks

              Make it homepage only.

Sitewide means you might get rankings suppressed for the keyword "Cleardata Document Management"

Thanks for the link Ryan. I'll check out that post now to see how they'd deal with footer links on all pages.

                  Hello,

There was recently a good article about this in the SEOMoz blog.

This is the article link: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/lifting-a-manual-penalty-given-by-google-personal-experience

Here is a quote from the article:" When developing websites for clients, we always include links in the bottom right footer of the client's website. Usually, this is something along the lines of "Web Design Yorkshire | Pinpoint Designs". These two blocks of text include links to the homepage of our agency's website. When looking at the webmaster guidelines, it's pretty obvious that we should never have been doing this, and most likely the cause of our penalty."

Hopefully this helps answer your question!

                  Ryan Maas

Does anyone know the linking of hashtags on Wix sites does it negatively or positively impact SEO.  It is coming up as an error in site crawls 'Pages with 404 errors'  Anyone got any experience please? For example at the bottom of this blog post https://www.poppyandperle.com/post/face-painting-a-global-language the hashtags are linked, but they don't go to a page, they go to search results of all other blogs using that hashtag.  Seems a bit of a strange approach to me.

Can I set a canonical tag to an anchor link?

I have a client who is moving to a one page website design.  So, content from the inner pages is being condensed in to sections on the 'home' page.  There will be a navigation that anchor links to each relevant section.  I am wondering if I should leave the old pages and use rel=canonical to point them to their relevant sections on the new 'home' page rather than 301 them.  Thoughts?

Home Page Ranking Instead of Service Pages

Hi everyone! I've noticed that many of our clients have pages addressing specific queries related to specific services on their websites, but that the Home Page is increasingly showing as the "ranking" page. For example, a plastic surgeon we work with has a page specifically talking about his breast augmentation procedure for Miami, FL but instead of THAT page showing in the search results, Google is using his home page. Noticing this across the board. Any insights? Should we still be optimizing these specific service pages? Should I be spending time trying to make sure Google ranks the page specifically addressing that query because it SHOULD perform better? Thanks for the help. Confused SEO :/, Ricky Shockley

When creating parent and child pages should key words be repeated in url and page title?

We are in the direct mail advertising business:  PrintLabelAndMail.com Example: Parent:
                    Postcard Direct Mail Children:
                    Postcard Mailings
                    Postcard Design
                    Postcard Samples
                    Postcard Pricing
Postcard Advantages should "postcard" be repeated in the URL and Page Title? and in this example should each of the 5 children link back directly to the parent or would it be better to "daisy chain" them using each as parent for the next?

Can you noindex a page, but still index an image on that page?

If a blog is centered around visual images, and we have specific pages with high quality content that we plan to index and drive our traffic, but we have many pages with our images...what is the best way to go about getting these images indexed? We want to noindex all the pages with just images because they are thin content... Can you noindex, follow a page, but still index the images on that page? Please explain how to go about this concept.....

                    International Site Links In Footer

We have several international sites and we have them linked in the footer of our main .com site . Should we add "nofollow" to these links? Our concern is that Google could see these sites as a network?

What is the value of english links with foreign language anchor text for a foreign site?

I have a site in Spanish that is hosted in Spain with a .es TLD. I already have many Spanish-language links from websites in Spain, but I obviously want more and I'm finding I might need to look beyond typical Spanish sites. In talking to some of my link builders who work on my English/American sites, they are recommending that I build links on the normal article sites, blogs and web 2.0 sites that I normally build links on but that I make all the content English and insert the anchor text in Spanish. For example, if my site were about "weightloss", my keyword would be "perder peso" (in spanish).  They are recommending that I have articles, reviews, etc written about weightloss in English with the anchor text "perder peso" worked into the English article.  Most of the sites are English sites that are hosted in the US (article sites, web 2.0 properties, etc). My question is what is the value of these links?  Does anybody have any experience with this?
