          Hi all,

What is the best and easiest way to 301 redirect URLs on IIS server?

I got access to the FTP and WordPress back office, but no access to the server admin.

Is there an easy way to create 301 redirect without having to always annoy the tech in charge of the server?

          Thanks!

              You have two options:

              1. Set it up in IIS Manager (best option, least overhead for the server, need no coding skills)
              2. Code it in classic ASP in a global include file that all pages reference before sending content back to the browser.

Here's a great article that walks you through the IIS config option.  For this, you need access to IIS Manager:

              http://www.proworks.com/blog/2010/02/11/adding-a-301-redirect-in-iis-for-individual-pages-with-non-aspx-extensions/

Sounds like that option is unavailable to you however.

For the other option:  your site probably has a file or two that's included at the start of all web pages.  (If not, you can add it).  In that file, you'll want to check the URL passed in like this:

              Dim sThisPage                = Request.ServerVariables("SCRIPT_NAME")

              If (LCase(sThisPage) = "/oldpage.aspx") Then

              Response.Status            = "301 Moved Permanently"
                      Response.AddHeader        "Location", "http://" & sThisServer & "/newpage.aspx"
                      Response.End
              End If

                        Nor was I.

If you have FTP access, you might then have to work in the .htaccess file and build the redirects in there.

                            Hi Vadim,

Thanks for your answer, however it looks that the redirection plugin works only for apache servers.

                                Hi Benoit,

Yes, Andy is totally on it. Server side redirects are faster, however if you have Wordpress a plugins make it so much easier and convenient.

Also if you want other powerful features like: 404 error monitoring - captures a log of 404 errors and allows you to easily map these to 301 redirects, and more Try Redirection plugin

                                Hope this Helps!

Absolutely - Install this plugin: http://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-301-redirects/

I use this on a couple of my own sites and it works a treat.

Hi everyone, Recently I have faced a crawl issue with my media images on website. For example this page url https://intreface.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Horion-screen-side-2.png has 302 HTTP Status and the recommendation is to change it 301. I have read the article on temporary redirections here:
                                    https://a-moz.groupbuyseo.org/learn/seo/redirection?_ga=2.45324708.1293586627.1702571936-916254120.1702571936
but its not written here how to redirect in my HTML 1 image url not the landing page.

Delete old blog posts after 301 redirects to new pages?

Hi Moz Community, I've recently created several new pages on my site using much of the same copy from blog posts on the same topics (we did this for design flexibility and a few other reasons). The blogs and pages aren't exactly identical, as the new pages have much more content, but I don't think there's a point to having both and I don't want to have duplicate content, so we've used 301 redirects from the old blog posts to the new pages of the same topic. My question is: can I go ahead and delete the old blog posts? (Or would there be any reasons I shouldn't delete them?) I'm guessing with the 301 redirects, all will be well in the world and I can just delete the old posts, but I wanted to triple check to make sure. Thanks so much for your feedback, I really appreciate it!

Robots txt. in page with 301 redirect

We currently have a a series of help pages that we would like to disallow from our robots txt. The thing is that these help pages are located in our old website, which now has a 301 redirect to current site. Which is the proper way to go around? 1- Add the pages we want to disallow to the robots.txt of the new website? 2- Break the redirect momentarily and add the pages to the robots.txt of the old one? Thanks

One website I manage wants to redirect users to state specific pages based on their location. What is the best way to accomplish this? For example a user enters the through site.com but they are in Colorado so we want to direct them to site.com/colorado.

                                    www.otherdomain.nl
                                    www.otherdomain.com
... Some of these domains have backlinks too (but not so much). I suggested to 301 redirect them all to the main site. Just to avoid duplicate content. But now the webhoster comes into play: "It's a problem, client has only 1 hosting account, blablabla...". They told me they could CNAME the 20 domains to the main domain. Or A-record them to an IP address. This is too technical stuff for me. So my concrete questions are: Is it smart to do anything at all or am I just harming my client? The main site is ranking pretty well now. And some backlinks are from their copy sites (probably because everywhere the logo links to the full mainsite url). Does the CNAME or A-record solution has the same effect as a 301 redirect, from SEO perspective? Many thanks,
                                    Hans

How to create a delayed 301 redirect that still passes juice?

My company is merging one of our sites into another site. At first I was just going to create a 301 redirect from domainA.com to domainB.com but we decided that would be too confusing for customers expecting to see domainA.com so we want to create a page that says something like "We've moved. please visit domainB.com or be redirected after 10 seconds". My question is, how do I create a redirect that has a delay and will this still pass the same amount of juice that a regular 301 redirect would? I've heard that meta refreshes are considered spammy by Google.

What is the best way to find stranded pages?

I have a client that has a site that has had a number of people in charge of it. All of these people have very different opinions about what should be on the site itself. When I look at their website on the server I see pages that do not have any obvious navigation to them. What is the best way to find out the internal linking structure of a site and see if these pages truly are stranded?

Internal vs external blog and best way to set up

I have a client that has two domians registered - one uses www.keywordaustralia.com the other uses www.keywordaelaide.com He had already bought and used the first domain when he came to me I suggested the second as being worth buying as going for a more local keyword would be more appropriate. Now I have suggested to him that a blog would be a worthy use of the second domain and a way to build links to his site - however I am reading that as all links will be from the same site it wont be worth much in the long run and an internal blog is better as it means updated content on his site. should i use the second domain for blog, or just 301 the second domain to his first domain. Or is it viable to use the second domain as the blog and just set up an rss feed on his page ? Is there a way to have the second domain somehow 'linked' to his first domain with the blog so that google sees them as connected ? NOOBIE o_0
