          Hi,

I see that many good websites have backlinks from very good blogs/sites which are relative. What I noticed that everyone use their real name or generic name in comments. They do not use the keyword for the name. So later they get backlinks with anchor text of their names... So, my question is this good technique ? Do I have any benefits from these backlinks for my website ? With such a technique, whether it is enough just to leave your real name or may I periodically put the keyword for the name ?

          Thank you

I guess a combination of both, I always find phone is more personal and has a better success rate, but takes a lot longer and requires more work.

I would suggest try both methods and keep trying, you will get a lot more no's then yeses, but keep going. If it was easy everyone would do it.

I don't personally do the work, I just manage a team to do the outreach, so the actual work involved I am not too knowledgeable, but from speaking with them this morning, a combination of the two and don't give up.

It does get easier - the more your known, but to get known you have to spend time contacting these websites and getting rejected.

I totally disagree that forum posts are bad. What is the point of SEO? To drive people to your site. Well done forum posts do just that. I post to a lot of forums, so far this month I have around 7k visits to my blog from forums. Maybe they do not hold any "SEO" weight, but the do the exact same thing that SEO does.

The biggest thing I would suggest with forum posting is to not be spammy. Be helpful, write content that is relevant to questions, and post a lot.

that is great - at least you havent done any Black hat.

page 3 isn't too bad, but why do you have to wait for these people to find you. Why don't you take your content to these other blogs, new sites and show it off to them.

If it is good ( and I am assuming it is) they will naturally want to link to you, quote you in their articles.

This will then boost the articles page authority and also your domain authority meaning future posts rank higher, but even then - don't stop the out reach. Don't wait for people to find you - go out and shout about your great article.

If your waiting for people to naturally find your article and link to it, you will be waiting ages and it may never happen. The moment may have past, however go to news sites, tech blogs and share them your article and knowledge.

thanks for the help.... But you need to understand that i did not used any black hat techniques and I dont have a penalty from Google....

How can someone share my content if he cant find me.... for example , few days ago i wrote a review for one new phone and i am at page 3 on Google.... so he needs to do deep search to find me.... It's not logical to me ??

the only option is to contact them and ask them to publish something reletad to my site ?

I completely agree. Backlinks can't and shouldn't be bought, farmed, or created. They should be acquired naturally by crafting great content that people want to share.

"So how to get backlinks than ?" - this bugged me, what have you been doing upto now to get links, if you have been performing black hat techniques (http://www.pushon.co.uk/articles/top-5-white-hat-and-black-hat-search-optimisation-techniques/) then it might be worth giving up on your domain, and starting with a new domain (especially if you have a penalty) or trying to remove the penalty before you start doing any of the below.

there are many ways to get good quality links without guess blogging. Ive never done guest blogging and wouldn't do it on low quality sites, writing a great article on youmoz is different and can get you some links, but that is a different debate (see here http://a-moz.groupbuyseo.org/community/q/could-posting-on-youmoz-get-your-penalized-for-guest-blogging

I could spend days writing a huge articles about ways of getting links without guest blogging, but I will keep it relatively short.

                            1. How about writing and producing great content on your website that people want to link to.

                            2. If you sell products, send them out to some influential people in your niche and ask them to review (not guaranteed to get a link, but usually works)

                            3. Out reach, contact people in your niche and offer advice to help their articles and see if they can quote you.

Below is some great articles on helping you, I would also recommend watching Rands WhiteBoard Friday and subscribing to Matt Cutts on Youtube

I am going against the grain here and say they work in moderation. If you happen to comment a lot, just because you like to comment, 5%-10% of them being keyword is not going to hurt you. It will more than likely help you a bit too, but not too much.

Comments are a very weird / grey area. I know most people think they provide no SEO benefits, but there are some people that think they do. I ran into the guy that runs Raven Tools at a local SEO meeting and he mentioned that he was doing some experiments on comments. Basically, if you have someone that has a high authority in authorship commenting on a post, it raises the post. That is something interesting to think about.

Targeted backlinks utilizing keywords in place of your actual name are not recommended. Google will still recognize the backlink - it just won't have targeted anchor text. If you use targeted anchor text, Google may see the backlink as spam, this is why it's not recommended.

Forums may be a better choice for you, but I would still use caution there.

Using the keyword tactic is a bad idea. Comments are meant to be personalized so using a fake name or a keyword is not recommended. UX still factors into SEO so you could be harming your site and the site you're commenting on by doing that.

No, please don't use the keyword tactic. You should sign up for Matt Cutts videos on YouTube to get the latest news on Google updates. Guest blogging is an issue now, regardless of if the blog has relevant content for your business. The sites that show keywords in the names, I believe only appear after the commenter has been approved to comment but I could be wrong. I have seen a pattern here though. These sites also seem to be using 'commentluv' wordpress plugin.

If you get links they should be about your brand, not keywords. That is the end of story I am afraid. Follow your competitors, research your subject and publish good content on your own blog and share it.

Hello MOZ Community, I have question regarding Bad Backlink Removal. My Site's Post's Image got 4 to 5k backlinks from unknown sites and also their is no contact details on their site so that i can contact them to remove. So, I have an idea for which i want suggestion " If I change the url that receieves backlinks" does this will remove backlinks? For Example: https://example.com/test/ got 5k backlinks if I change this url to https://examplee.com/test-failed/ does this will remove those 5k backlinks? If not then How Can I remove those Backlinks? I Know about disavow but this takes time.

                                          Multiple Landing Pages and Backlinks

I have a client that does website contract work for about 50 governmental county websites.  The client has the ability to add a link back in the footer of each of these websites.  I am wanting my client to get backlink juice for a different key phrase from each of the 50 agencies (basically just my keyphrase with the different county name in it).  I also want a different landing page to rank for each term.  The 50 different landing pages would be a bit like location pages for local search.  Each one targets a different county.  However, I do not have a lot of unique content for each page.  Basically each page would follow the same format (but reference a different county name, and 10 different links from each county website). Is this a good SEO back link strategy?  Do I need more unique content for each landing page in order to prevent duplicate content flags?

Sponsored blog - pass any link juice?

Hello there, If a quality blog in our specific niche writes an article about us which is clearly labelled "sponsored post" as we have either paid them or given them a product, will Google discount that link going back to our website? Should we request for the link to be "no-follow"? Thanks Robert

                                          Wordpress Comments Pagination

Hi Mozzers What is your view on the following. Should you Paginate comments to increase page speed? If yes, at what # of comments would you begin pagination? (with the objective being decreasing page load times) Apply rel="canonical" back to the main article URL? eg: url/comment-page-1 => url noindex the comment pages? create a "View all" comments page? Thanks in advance for your help! 🙂

Blog On Subdomain - Do backlinks to the blog posts on Subdomain count as links for main site?

I want to put blog on my site.  The IT department is asking that I use a subdomain (myblog.mysite.com) instead of a subfolder (mysite.com/myblog).  I am worried b/c it was my understanding that any links I get to my blog posts (if on subdomain) will not count toward the main site (search engines would view almost as other website).   The main purpose of this blog is to attract backlinks.  That is why I prefer the subfolder location for the Blog. Can anyone tell me if I am thinking about this right? Another solution I am being offered is to use a reverse proxy. Thoughts? Thank you for your time.

                                          Using Folkd for Video Backlink

Hi Mozzers, What are your thoughts on using www.folkd.com for video SEO? We have a few company videos and would like to possibly get a backlink by either embedding one of our youtube videos on our site or self hosting the video. Are bookmarking sites like this spammy?

Redirect posts from a wordpress.com blog over to a self-hosted blog

Hi All I started a wordpress.com blog with a few posts on it, and these have been shared using social media so links to these exist on Facebook and Twitter. I've decided that its going to be better and more effective to have the blog on my primary domain. How would I setup a redirect from the wordpress.com blog to my self hosted blog? Normally I'd write a .htaccess file but I'm unable to do that over at wordpress.com. I can't even see an option to install plugins, otherwise I would have used the "Redirector" plugin.

                                          Multiple Keyword Research Questions, Help

Hello , I've been trying for several days to understand how keyword research works for a multi purpose website,I've read guides, articles even some chapters from the book" The Art of Seo" by O'Reilly and still no luck. It seems i can't wrap my head around keyword research, lets say I have a social gaming community website and I'm trying to rank it first on some low competition keywords + some long tail keywords. The website has functions like leaderboards, profiles, events, competitions, etc so it's not actually a news related website but it will have a blog. My website being on the games niche It would imply that I should target words that contain the word "Games" but this word generates millions of searches globally so ranking first its nearly impossible if the website is brand new. This made me pursue generic keywords formed with 2 / 3 words like fresh games, new games, mmorpg games, fps games, etc which still generate lets say 30.000 searches globally each. Due to the different areas of the website like latest game events, latest games competitions, etc I'm confused If i should pursue website specific keywords like latest games events, fresh games events, latest games competitions, upcoming games competitions but these too generate 30.000 global searches each,so... 0.should i use generic keywords or keywords that include site features? So let's say I decide to pursue generic "games" keywords, due to a high competition based on the keyword I decide to go a layer deeper and for the keyword "fresh games" I obtain keywords like** "fresh games 2011,top fresh games 2011, upcoming fresh games** " and thus building a list of 30 keywords that contain " fresh games".If i do this for the rest of the keywords: ** new games, mmorpg games, fps games, etc**  I end up with a list of 10.000 keywords or more since each keyword generates other keywords. Is this the correct approach ? since generating 10.000 keywords sounds a lot and I'm getting the feeling that It's not how it supposed to be done, like were would I insert 10.000 keywords? So how do I know which keywords to pick and aim in order to try to get no.1 ranking? and why those? How many keywords should I use? and where should i put them? since it's not a news website so writing a lot of articles isn't an option. Should I focus on 2 words keywords with around 10.000-30.000 seaches or 2 words keywords + long tail keywords with less traffic like 100 - 5000? Is there a guide for the Keyword Analysis Tool since if i enter "fresh new games" i get a 39% keyword difficulty,is that hard to rank? and I don't know what all those color mean since some of them have higher numbers then others that are found at the top and how can i get beat a website that has has rank 10. So hopefully with your help & by some miracle I will finally be able to build a keyword list. Thank you !
