Something to avoid, is the mindset of buying links / sponsoring.
Google values a genuine link that is editorially gained, rather than a side note / footer / site-wide links. These carry very little value and in some cases, can create a big headache for you in terms of penalties from Google.
Good SEO is actually a mix of a great user experience, easy-to-use website, interesting information and closely following Google's webmaster guidelines. This all boils down to best practice. Keep your visitors happy, social media buzzing, content well written and Google will start to value your site more.

Invest that in other SEO work instead. I would buy that if it's 60% cheaper and will always be on the homepage hehe

To answer your question bluntly. Nope!
For $10K, you could get a lot more for your money and would be a longer term investment. Your link on that PR9 site wouldn't be on the Home page the whole time, which I assume carries the highest PageRank. You would eventually fall into an inner page carrying much lower PageRank OR, worse, you get bumped from the site altogether.
Better ways to invest that same amount in organic SEO efforts. Fun question to start my day!

So Apartment Therapy are selling links? Tread carefully with this, because you have announced that you may pay $10k for writing an article that contains lots of links back to your site. If Google get wind of this, you could spell a whole heap of trouble for yourself.
Just as a side note, $10k will buy you a lot of very good organic SEO and link building that won't carry the risk.

I'm not sure how Apartment Therapy would feel about you sharing that information but that aside, given your name I assume your NZ based? If that's the case I'd get some metrics on subscriber numbers in New Zealand for Apartment Therapy (I know they're huge in Australia). I'd then weigh that up against 10K worth of SEM that is focused and targeted. We do a hell of a lot for 10K for a client (that's not a pitch btw). And finally one of their strongest assets is their EDM so if you do go that way, ensure you're in a prime position on the EDM. Hope that helps but for whatever it's worth, it sounds very expensive.

Backlinks and SPAM
I was doing some back link review of competitors and I have noticed that many of our competition have 300+ do follow back links from Justia.com and an additional 300+ do follow links from law.cornell.edu (they share the same database). The links on Justia are from different pages and they are all going to the root of our competitors site. So the questions are as follows; 1: For the purpose of SEO is this considered SPAM 2: If not SPAM, then does it have a positive effect on the competitions website and should I attempt to emulate for my client. Creating Backlinks On Behalf of Client
I'm on my first SEO project with a law firm. I'm at the stage where I am doing competitive backlink research on other law firms that my client gave me. I saw a blog site called typepad. It has a high domain authority so I was going to recommend to my client that they set up an account and blog away! Since it's a law firm, I am not qualified to start blogging on behalf of my client and I know they are extremely busy so now I have to "ride" my client to get busy and start creating content. I feel like I want to do more for them on the blog side to keep things going but not having a law background, probably not doable. Question: Do most SEO's do the blogging for their clients, farm it out or keep pushing their clients to do it? I also want them to sign up with articlebase but the same thing is going to happen. Building backlinks on sub-pages instead of main page(rood-domain)
Hey Mozzers! I am facing a problem and I need advice. I have recently opened my new website, which purpose is to offer quality articles, optimized for SEO. The problem is that I cannot find the right keyword to use for the main(root) domain (http://xxxxxx.org) as it is consisting of many niches. Is it a good idea to build backlinks on pages (http://xxxxxx.org/the-keyword-for-ranking) instead of building them on my root-domain? How important are edu and gov backlinks?
I have heard that edu and gov backlinks are important but how so in a niche area like mine - real estate? Perhaps I am missing the point but I do not see how either type of site would ever backlink to a commercial real estate entity. If these are that important in theory, are they obtainable in practice?
