          Hy guys,

I have two questions and one might be a dumb question but there it goes. I just want to be sure that I understand:

IF I tell webmaster tools to ignore an URL Parameter, will google still index and rank my url?

IS it ok if I don't append in the url structure the brand filter?, will I still rank for that brand?

          Thanks,

          PS: ok 3 questions :)...

If you want to permanently remove URLs from the index, this is the basic process:

Have your developer implement NoIndex, Follow to all pages that have the URL parameter you want removed. For example, if the URL contains categoryFilter= (like above), then add the NoIndex, Follow tag to the of the page. Do this for all URL paramters you want removed from the index.

Make sure Google is allowed to crawl those pages. If they are blocked by robots.txt or told not to crawl them via Google Webmaster Tools, Google will not be able to see the newly implement NoIndex, Follow tag.

Then, give it some time and wait. It may take Google a long time to crawl all of these paramtered URLs again. Fallout of the index might be slow.

Once the URLs are gone, consider blocking the crawling of them via robots.txt or in GWT parameter handling.

              Hi Anthony,

What if we are trying to permanently remove e-commerce website URL's that have multiple parameters from (Google) index. How would we apply noindex to all these URL's with parameters??

              e.g.  http://www.x-x-x.co.uk/wine/2013-BROUILLY-Vieilles-Vignes-Domaine-Laurent-Martray-20720-00.html?pack=25009&term=brouilly&categoryFilter=545&page=

The aim is to recrawl and rebuild the index of the whole website using appropriate robots, canonical's & meta-tags, rather than using GWT.

              Many thanks

Parameter handling in Google Webmaster Tools won't get a URL out of the index if it is already indexed.

You need to use the NoIndex robots meta tag in the of your page. Once you add this tag, be sure you are allowing Google to crawl the page. Make sure it is Not blocked via robots.txt or with Parameter handling.

Once the pages have left the index, you can block them from being crawled.

If you want a page or url not crawled then you should use the robots.txt file and robots meta tags. Then, in WMT, make sure those same pages are actually not being crawled

                  Hope that answers your question

Should I "no-index" two exact pages on Google results?

noindex google search engine results seo expert

Hello everyone, I recently started a new wordpress website and created a static homepage. I noticed that on Google search results, there are two different URLs landing on same content page. I've attached an image to explain what I saw. Should I "no-index" the page url? Google url.JPG In this picture, the first result is the homepage and I try to rank for that page. The last result is landing on same content with different URL. So, should I no-index last result as shown in image?

What punctuation can you use in meta tags? Are there any Google does not like?

So I know you can use dashes and | in meta tags, but can anyone tell me what other punctuation you can use? Also, it'd be great to know what punctuation you can't use. Thanks!

                    Fake Links indexing in google

Hello everyone, I have an interesting situation occurring here, and hoping maybe someone here has seen something of this nature or be able to offer some sort of advice. So, we recently installed a wordpress to a subdomain for our business and have been blogging through it. We added the google webmaster tools meta tag and I've noticed an increase in 404 links. I brought this up to or server admin, and he verified that there were a lot of ip's pinging our server looking for these links that don't exist. We've combed through our server files and nothing seems to be compromised. Today, we noticed that when you do site:ourdomain.com into google the subdomain with wordpress shows hundreds of these fake links, that when you visit them, return a 404 page. Just curious if anyone has seen anything like this, what it may be, how we can stop it, could it negatively impact us in anyway? Should we even worry about it? Here's the link to the google results. https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Amshowells.com&oq=site%3A&aqs=chrome.0.69i59j69i57j69i58.1905j0j1&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=91&ie=UTF-8 (odd links show up on pages 2-3+)

Can you noindex a page, but still index an image on that page?

If a blog is centered around visual images, and we have specific pages with high quality content that we plan to index and drive our traffic, but we have many pages with our images...what is the best way to go about getting these images indexed? We want to noindex all the pages with just images because they are thin content... Can you noindex, follow a page, but still index the images on that page? Please explain how to go about this concept.....

Does Google pass link juice a page receives if the URL parameter specifies content and has the Crawl setting in Webmaster Tools set to NO?

The page in question receives a  lot of quality traffic but is only relevant to a small percent of my users. I want to keep the link juice received from this page but I do not want it to appear in the SERPs.

                    Does Google index XML files?

Does Google or other search engines include XML files in their index? More specifically, I am wondering how Google knows the difference between an xml filetype and an RSS feed.
