My Squarespace site www.thephysiocompany.com has seen a sudden jump in 302 redirects in the past 30 days. Gone from 0-302 (ironically). They are not detectable using generic link redirect testing sites and Squarespace have not explanation.

          Any help would be appreciated.

It does make sense Stephen, but this bit bothers me:

The URL mappings must be used to redirect any link to a deleted page to an existent page.

If I am reading that correctly then are they saying that 404's can't exist, just 302's? You don't always want to direct someone to a page, especially if it isn't applicable. In many cases, a 404 would be the right thing to do if a page is just being removed.

Of course, if there is somewhere to redirect someone to, then you would do so with a 301 (permanent redirect) rather than a 302 (temporary redirect).

I don't really understand their system, so might be missing something in translation.

            -Andy

              Hey Andy,

Thanks for looking into this. I'm seeing them on the Crawl Diagnostics (Screenshot here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/cne9w4etmqmr8kb/screenshot-moz.groupbuyseo.org 2015-07-27 15-07-24.png?dl=0 )

Squarespace support have said the following:

Juan U.: Thank you for waiting Stephen! The 302 redirects seems to be referring to the multiple redirects to the same page. The URL mappings must be used to redirect any link to a deleted page to an existent page. We've checked all the possible redirects to /services/dry-needling, and we found all possible combination of a page URL (tags, + symbols, refererences). All these redirects to the same page can be read as temporary redirects (302). They're not from a deleted page, but from a possible page.

Stephen: Ok, so should we clean up our url mappings to prevent this from continuing to happen?

Juan U.: Yes, that would be a great way to prevent any issue when the site's being evaluated by Moz. You can check any dead link on the site, with Google Search Console, this tool will help you find them and fix them. If any external link is pointing to a deleted page, you can request Google to remove it from the search results.

              Make sense to you?

                Hi Stephen,

What are you using to see 302 of them? I didn't get anything like that number when I looked. There is the off-site 302, but we're talking just a few.

                -Andy

                  Hi Andy,

That seems to be how Squarespace deals with docs in general. The number of 302's rose from 50(roughly the number of PDF docs) to 302 from July 9ths crawl. For example there are PDFs on the following page:

                  http://www.thephysiocompany.com/injuries-and-conditions-treated

But it is still showing up as a 302.

                  Thanks,

                  Stephen

                    Hi,

the 302's mostly appear to be PDF documents. Does this sound right to you? Has this only just come to your attention, or have you recently uploaded lots of documents?

                    For example:

                    http://www.thephysiocompany.com/s/Clinic-Info-Patricks-Quay-Spec.pdf -->  http://static1.squarespace.com/static/537b0649e4b0f6c6b6877a35/t/542be1d5e4b005bb34fa0cfb/1412162005901/Clinic+Info+-+Patricks+Quay-+Spec.pdf

Unsolved Temporary redirect from 302 to 301 for PNG File?

302 temporary riderect 301 http status image issue

                      #302HTTP #temporaryredirect
Hi everyone, Recently I have faced a crawl issue with my media images on website. For example this page url https://intreface.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Horion-screen-side-2.png has 302 HTTP Status and the recommendation is to change it 301. I have read the article on temporary redirections here:
                      https://a-moz.groupbuyseo.org/learn/seo/redirection?_ga=2.45324708.1293586627.1702571936-916254120.1702571936
but its not written here how to redirect in my HTML 1 image url not the landing page.
                      Screenshot 2023-12-15 at 11.02.40.png
I have messaged to MOZ Support but they recommended to go for the MOZ Community!
Screenshot 2023-12-15 at 11.06.02.png Could you assist me wit this issue please? I can reach HTTML of the necessary page and change what I need for permanent redirection but firstly I need to understand how to do that correctly.

Our clients Magento 2 site has lots of obsolete categories. Advice on SEO best practice for setting server level redirects so I can delete them?

                      magento nginx

Our client's Magento website has been running for at least a decade, so has a lot of old legacy categories for Brands they no longer carry. We're looking to trim down the amount of unnecessary URL Redirects in Magento, so my question is: Is there a way that is SEO efficient to setup permanent redirects at a server level (nginx) that Google will crawl to allow us at some point to delete the categories and Magento URL Redirects? If this is a good practice can you at some point then delete the server redirects as google has marked them as permanent?

                      Redirection chain and Javascript Redirect

Hi, A redirection chain is usually defined as a page redirecting to another page which itself is another redirection. URL1 ---(301/302)---> URL2 ---(301/302)---> URL3 But what about Javascript redirect? They seem to be a different beast: URL1 ---(301/302)---> URL2 ---(200 then Javascript redirect)---> URL3 From what I know if the javascript redirect is instant Google counts it as a 301 permanent redirection, but I'm still not sure about if this counts as a redirection chain. Most of the tools (such as moz) only see the first redirection. So is that scenario a redirection chain or no?

I have a question about the impact of a root domain redirect on site-wide redirects and slugs.

I have a question about the impact (if any) of site-wide redirects for DNS/hosting change purposes. I am preparing to redirect the domain for a site I manage from https://siteImanage.com to https://www.siteImanage.com. Traffic to the site currently redirects in reverse, from https://www.siteImanage.com to https://siteImanage.com. Based on my research, I understand that making this change should not affect the site’s excellent SEO as long as my canonical tags are updated and a 301 redirect is in place. But I wanted to make sure there wasn’t a potential consequence of this switch I’m not considering. Because this redirect lives at the root of all the site’s slugs and existing redirects, will it technically produce a redirect chain or a redirect loop? If it does, is that problematic? Thanks for your input!

                      Max Number of 301 Redirections?

Hi, We currently made a re-design of a website and we changed all our urls to make them shorter. I made more than 300 permanent redirections but plenty more are needed since WMT is showing some more 404s from old urls that I hadn't seen because they were dynamic. The question is, please, is there a limit? I think we have more than 600 already. We don't want to create a php commando to redirect all the old ones to our home, we are redirecting them to their correspondent url. By the way, Im doing them with the 301 method in .htaccess. Thanks in advance.

How to redirect 302 status to 301 status code using wordpress

I just ran the link opportunity option within site explorer and it shows that 31 pages are currently in a 302 status.  Should I try to convert the 302's to 301's?  And what is the easiest way to do this? I see several wordpress plugins that claim to do 301 redirects but I don't know which to choose. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Removing a large number of unnecessary pages from a site

Hi all, I got a big problem with my website. I have a lot of page, duplicate page made from various combinations of selects, and for all this duplicate content we've be hit by a panda update 2 years ago. I don't want to bring new content an all of these pages, about 3.000.000, because most of them are unnecessary. Google indexed all of them (3.000.000), and I want to redirect the pages that I don't need anymore to the most important ones. My question, is there any problem in how google will see this change, because after this it will remain only 5000-6000 relevant pages?

Delete 301 redirected pages from server after redirect is in place?

Should I remove the redirected old pages from my site after the redirects are in place? Google is hating the redirects and we have tanked. I did over 50 redirects this week, consolidating content and making one great page our of 3-10 pages with very little content per page. But the old pages are still visible to google's bot. Also, I have not put a rel canonical to itself on the new pages. Is that necessary? Thanks! Jean
