          Hi all,

I have seen a few discussions / advice pieces around this, but wondered what the current view is on the fastest way to get new backlinks recognised by Moz?

I have seen people say that the content needs to be shared (e.g. on Twitter), and advice around creating Bitly links.  I am not convinced that these techniques are working.

On a related note, my website is very large.  I have around 2.5m pages.  Most of these pages are 3-4 clicks from the home page, but I have a small amount of important content much higher up in the site (1-2 clicks from the home page).  Does Moz crawl pages nearer the home page more frequently, or does it make a pass of all pages on the site before it starts at the beginning again?  If it makes a complete pass of all pages, then presumably making my site smaller will help to get Moz to see new content more quickly?  Is there any other value to be gained in making a large site smaller?

          Many thanks in advance,

          Neil.

I can personally recommend DeepCrawl, its an amazing tool. Use it almost every day.

Hm... I'm not totally sure - that might be a question to ask of Feedly's support folks. Here's what I found when I tried to go digging for some information: https://blog.feedly.com/feedly-tutorial/

              Hope that helps!

                Hi Tawny,

Final question I think:  how do you use create a feedly link for a specific page, in order to then tweet it?  I am sorry to ask this, but cannot see how to do this.

                Thanks!

                Neil.

                  Hey Neil,

We used to use bit.ly links for this purpose, but we've switched over to feed.ly links. When I said that both a) and b) would help to get your links indexed and picked up by Open Site Explorer, I suppose I meant that a two-pronged approach would be best. I would recommend doing both! 🙂

Hope that helps! If you've got more questions, feel free to drop us a line at [email protected] and we'll do our best to help!

                    Hi David,

Many thanks for your response, it's really useful.  I will be sure to check out Deep Crawl as I hadn't heard of that tool before.

Unfortunately, in my line of business, my site's Moz DA has a direct impact on my revenue, it's actually more important than my Google search rankings (crazy world we live in when the performance indicator matters more than the performance!!).

                    Kind regards,

                    Neil.

                      Hi NHARRIS1,

If you replace all of your mentions of "Moz" with "Google / search engines" your original post makes more sense.

It doesn't matter if Moz sees your links and it's a waste of your time to try and speed up Moz recognizing your new links - it will not help your organic performance in the slightest.

Also, I believe Moz has a crawl limit of 50,000 pages per site (someone from Moz can confirm / correct this) so it will only ever be scratching the surface of your 2.5m page site.

If you want to do a full crawl of your site to analyse issues, you might want to try Screaming Frog or Deep Crawl.

                      Cheers,

                      David

                        Hi Tawny,

Many thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it!

Re "The fastest way to get links indexed would be to a) tweet them as feed.ly links and b) search for your site in Open Site Explorer...", I have a couple of clarification questions if you don't mind.

Firstly, are you saying to do both (a) and (b) in order to get new content indexed, or are you saying to do either (a) or (b),  If the latter, which one is faster?

Secondly, is that definitely feed.ly?  I thought we needed to use bitly.com?

                        Kind regards,

                        Neil.

Hey there! Tawny from Moz's Help Team here. These are great questions!

All of the links that end up in Just Discovered Links (JDL) come from tweeted feed.ly links.

This is separate to the Mozscape Index, which is what powers Open Site Explorer and the Links section of Moz Pro campaigns. Links that we discover are crawled for inclusion in our main index based on the authority of those URLs.

I’m afraid we don’t have a specific timeframe for when links from Just Discovered Links would appear in the Mozscape index. Because of the time it takes to identify links, schedule, crawl and index them, it can be one to two indexes before the links in JDL become established links in our index. A higher domain authority of linking domains will help ensure the links are included in the index, but do not help in speeding the process of getting links indexed.

The fastest way to get links indexed would be to a) tweet them as feed.ly links and b) search for your site in Open Site Explorer, which will prompt our tools to revisit your site and crawl it to include more links in the index. We start from your homepage and crawl the links we find from there, so it's possible that our tools might miss links that are more deeply buried into your site.

I hope that helps! If you've still got any questions, feel free to shoot us a note at [email protected] and we'll do our best to sort you out. Cheers!

If I have a MOZ PRO account, do I still need Screaming Frog?

Hi, I have a MOZ PRO account which is brilliant for me. I am about to move my site from HTTP to HTTPS and was looking for a smooth way to list every page and its details so I can make sure I do the correct redirects etc.. before the switch to SSL. Do I need to get Screaming Frog, or can the tools with MOZ Pro ease my path just as well? Thanks

Site has DA of 26 but no backlinks

I'm asking this for a guy over at SEOchat: http://forums.seochat.com/new-user-seo-questions-answers-123/unusual-change-domain-authority-486962.html Here's what his post says: Exclamation Unusual Change in Domain authority
Guys and Girls, I'm having a weird issue in one of my sites , thing is the site had DA 11 in July and however when check on September Site is having 26 without me doing any type of link building and there are no new posts for this month as well. When checked using open site explorer there are no backlinks indexed in their Mozcape index as well. Site: http://www.beijingtravelchannel.com/ Can you give me any plausible reasons for this to happen, so that i can check them out. Thanks in Advance.

Moz Pro: Linking RDs to Page much lower than Google Search Console

I'm trying to use the Analyze Keyword tool in Moz Pro, and in the SERP Analysis table, my page has a PA of one, and zero root domains linking to it. If I look at the page in Google Search console, it says I have 229 root domains linking to the page from well known domains like github.com, meetup.com, stackoverflow.com, etc. This particular keyword has been tracked in Moz for the last 6 months, but I just noticed that it was extremely low. I am relatively new to Moz, so forgive me if I sound confused, but can someone explain to me how the numbers can be so low?

                            Moz crawling bot

Hi guys, in OpenSiteExplorer -> Top Pages, there are no page titles displayed in a raport for certain domain, and "HTTP Status" column shows: "Blocked by robots.txt". I tried to find out what the ID of Moz crawling bot is, and on this page: http://a-moz.groupbuyseo.org/community/q/seomoz-spider-bot-details someone says it's: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; rogerBot/1.0; http://www.seomoz.org/dp/rogerbot). However, my robots.txt doesn't have such entry. Take a look: Automatically banned scanners and crawlers section User-agent: 008 Disallow: / user-agent: AhrefsBot Disallow: / User-agent: MJ12bot Disallow: / User-agent: metajobbot Disallow: / User-agent: Exabot Disallow: / User-agent: Ezooms Disallow: / User-agent: fyberspider Disallow: / User-agent: dotbot Disallow: / User-agent: MojeekBot Disallow: / Section end What could be the problem here, then? Why does the Moz bot think I'm blocking it?

Issues Checking Backlinks To YouTube Videos

Hi, Hope someone might be able to help here. I have been using OSE to check backlinks to sites without an issue. However, I do seem to have problems checking links to videos. For examplpe, I took a video url and checked backlinks and OSE reports 33 million just discovered, majestic SEO reports none and Ahrefs seems about right with 17. I was wondering if there is something I need to do to ensure OSE returns correct results for individual youtube videos. FYI, I am using the url that appears in the Google search. Thanks Mark
