I am using a directory plug-in that doesn't have separate urls for each profile. Is there any way to set up a link to go directly to a particular business?

Don't think this is possible with your site's (current) architecture as the parts you want to link to are 'generated' and exist in the modified source-code only, rather than the base source code.

Basically you can extend a URL using the hash-anchor (#) to connect to certain areas of a web-page, which are marked up a certain way.

**I can take your URL here: **https://www.sacramentotop10.com/business/chamber-of-commerce/

And extend it to jump straight to your footer, for example: https://www.sacramentotop10.com/business/chamber-of-commerce/#footer

This is because the footer always exists in your web-page's base (non-modified) source code:

                • view-source:https://www.sacramentotop10.com/business/chamber-of-commerce/ - (this link will only work in Google Chrome!)

You can see the reference for your footer here:

                • https://d.pr/i/AnLonX.png (screenshot)

That is a view of the page's non-modified source code, before any scripts (JavaScript etc) have run. That's what you get with right click -> View page source

Once your scripts have run, things look a little different. The modified source (which you can access via right click -> Inspect, using Google Chrome) is richer and paints a fuller picture

Here's the same area of code again but viewed via the modified source:

                • https://d.pr/i/BRXg3B.png (screenshot)

As you can see, the modified source code (less Google / SEO friendly - as Google won't always execute your scripts when crawling!) contains the actual text for the copyright notice in your footer. The base source code (un-modified, more Google friendly as it's always read by Google) does not contain the actual text, only the ID which scripts need as an anchor to generate that text for you

Your problem is that, hash anchors which should work and open that window for you - won't work because all that content is stored in the modified source code (not in the base source).

Let's say you wanted to link to this one:

                • https://d.pr/i/iQVOPs.png (screenshot)

And you wanted to make a link, that deep-links people just to this part here:

                • https://d.pr/i/QvAwIe.png (screenshot)

Now technically if you inspect that frame, there is something with a decent ID to hook onto:

                • https://d.pr/i/kMUsDO.png (screenshot)

So this link should technically work:

But sadly it doesn't do squat (I also tried https://www.sacramentotop10.com/business/chamber-of-commerce/#3328-1 and https://www.sacramentotop10.com/business/chamber-of-commerce/#3328).The reason is that, the content (pop-up window, text etc) for specified ID only exists in the modified source code (after scripts have run) but not in "View source" (the non-modified source code)

                Check it out:

                • https://d.pr/i/5GqIVY.png (screenshot)

You can see the 'hook' which JS grips into (to populate the content), but if you search for any content inside of the pop-up **window in the base (**non-modified) source code:

                • https://d.pr/i/HhUdJK.png (screenshot)

Let's use that text ("Folsom Chamber of Commerce") as an example. Now go to the basic source code:

                • https://d.pr/i/CmXVaP.png (screenshot)

                Guess what?

                • https://d.pr/i/7b2UrU.png (screenshot)

Bam! There's nothing there. Your problem is, you're trying to link to something which doesn't exist until scripts have run. You can use hash-anchors ('#') to deep-link, but not to generated areas of a web-page (as far as I am aware)

This functionality would require a restructure of your site in some way.

                  Hello Julie,

This article explains a solution https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/jump-link-same-page - you'll need to put anchor tags around the company names, possibly some CSS should the presentation be effected.

                  This help?

What’s the best tool to visualize internal link structure and relationships between pages on a single site?

I‘d like to review the internal linking structure on my site. Is there a tool that can visualize the relationships between all of the pages within my site?

Internal Linking: What is the best practice for pages not included in Nav bar?

I never quite understood why internal linking was such a big deal for SEO, but now I'm having second thoughts and perhaps understanding it more. I always thought since most websites have a navigation feature--usually the menu bar located at the top and often another one in the footer--that internal navigation was usually already built in to most websites and therefore, a silly topic to make a fuss over; however, I may be the silly one after all. I am now creating pages that are not included in the navigation so.... What is the best practice for this? If I am creating say, pages for certain locations and those location pages begin to number in the hundreds, it makes my navigation bar a little too cumbersome to have all those pages in a drop down menu. So I made a Locations page and just link to all those pages from that page (and from nowhere else). But now I'm wondering if this could be a bad internal linking practice and perhaps hurt my online visibility as an SEO ranking factor. Is this a crawl problem? And if so, is there a better option that provides a good visitor experience while appeasing the search engines.

How to optimize SEO value of links in a calendar

Hi All- I am building a website about outdoor activities (cycling, kayaking, hiking, etc.). The site will most likely be built with either Joomla or Wordpress. A key piece of the site will be a calendar of upcoming events. The calendar will list the basic attributes of each event like date, time and location. However if an event has a webpage of it's own I will also include a link to that page in the details of the event. My question is: How can I create a calendar that will capitalize on the SEO value of the links included in the event descriptions? I've noticed many similar sites put events into a Google calendar and then embed the Google calendar into their webpage. In that situation would Google even see any external links included in the descriptions of the events? Thanks in advance for any input. -Chris

                    Link colour on page?

I always thought that the link colour has to be different from text colour? I have come across a site http://www.printandpackaging.co.uk/ and it has made me question this belief, they seem to only have bolded the link which would be very nice if this is  fine.

How will it affect my site if i link to a site with adult content?

We are currently working on creating 2 sites for a company, one with no adult content, one with adult content. Will it affect the non adult content site if i link to the other one in terms of Google and being blocked by some internet providers.

Over Optimization & Footer Links for Crediting Web Design to a Company

With the recent updates to the algorithm having to do with link networks and over optimization it has got me to thinking about the footer links we add to each site that we build and do web design for linking back to ours. I could certainly see how Google could make the assumption that these are all on the same server, pointing back to one main site, and penalize us for that. Should we no=follow these links? They may say something like, "Website Designed By: Company Name". They do provide a valuable source to some extent of traffic to the site from people interested in our designs. Any thoughts?

                    Link Juice Passing Through Headers

I understand the concept of linking your pages internally to help  pass juice to one another but it seems to me that the navigation bar with links to your main pages that appear on every page kind of eliminate the linking strategy. For Example: At the top of every page is a Home, About, Services, Contact, etc. Do the bots count these as links from each page? There must be something I'm missing here! Help me out guys!

How is link juice split between navigation?

Hey All, I am trying to understand link juice as it relates to duplicate navigation Take for example a site that has a main navigation contained in dropdowns containing 50 links (fully crawl-able and indexable), then in the footer of said page that navigation is repeated so you have a total of 100 links with the same anchor text and url. For simplicity sake will the link juice be divided among those 100 and passed to the corresponding page or does the "1st link rule" still apply and thus only half of the link juice will be passed? What I am getting at is if there was only one navigation menu and the page was passing 50 link juice units then each of the subpages would get passed 1link juice unit right? but if the menu is duplicated than the possible link juice is divided by 100 so only .5 units are being passed through each link. However because there are two links pointing to the same page is there a net of 1 unit? We have several sites that do this for UX reasons but I am trying to figure out how badly this could be hurting us in page sculpting and passing juice to our subpages. Thanks for your help! Cheers.
