301 Redirect from ASP.NET to PHP...Is it possible?

Hi all,
I'm trying to migrate my current website over to wordpress however my current website is ASP.NET and obviously Wordpress uses PHP.
Is it possible to perform a 301 redirect from a asp.net to a php?
Or do you need to convert the asp.net language into php?
Or something different?
I welcome your thoughts?

From what I understand I could just do this...
I build up a new wordpress website on a different hosting account. Within the .htaccess file I create my 301's. Then once I point the domain from the old hosting and website to my new one everything should work fine?

sorry for my late answer.
As Alan was saying, the web server intercepts a request before it serves a page. If it finds a rule that redirects that request, there is no need for the files to exist. So you would manage the rules for the request that you want to redirect on the same server where the old domain is located. If you are redirecting to the same domain, then yes, this means the rule will be on the same server that manages that domain. When somebody looks for your page, then the DNS would point to your server's IP. After that, the request is sent to that IP and the web server will try to serve whatever is needed for that request. But if you successfully add a rule for that specific request (let's say "www.mydomain.com/page1") to be sent to another URL (let's say "www.mydomain.com/newpage"), then the server will redirect that request.

you don't need both sets of files.
before the request reaches your pages, it is intercepted by the webserver and checks for any 301 rules. if it finds one for that url it will redirect, even if neither of the files exist. this all happens early in the request life cycle.
But as I said before, make things easy for yourself, only 301 the pages that had external links

Thanks for replying. Wondered however how you would get both the files to sit on the same hosting?
I know that windows can take both PHP and ASP.NET but I have heard that windows hosting for WordPress is not as straight forward as Linux. Is it still possible to perform 301 redirects for both sets of files in Linux?

I would find any pages that's have external links, and only 301 them, as there is no use 301'ing pages that have no external links, you can 301 any url you want, the language is not relevant.
What server are you on IIS(Microsoft) or Apache? For Apache then use .htaccess for iis use web.config
Me myself I would not be moving to WordPress, you will end up with many more crawling problems

I did not code ASP.NET, but from my understanding, a 301 redirect does not need to be connected to the language you write code in. You could perform a 301 redirect from your web server for example (in Apache you could use the htaccess file).
Anyways, I think you should redirect from your asp.net file to php and everything will work ok. You can check the link below for some code examples I have found searching on Google.

Hi everyone, I recently relaunched our website and everything went well. However, while checking site health, I found a new redirect chain issue (302 > 302 > 301 > 200) when the user requests the HTTP and non-www version of our URL. Here's what's happening: • 302 #1 -- http://domain.com/example/ 302 redirects to http://domain.com/PnVKV/example/ (the 5 characters in the appended "subfolder" are dynamic and change each time)

• 302 #2 -- http://domain.com/PnVKV/example/ 302 redirects BACK to http://domain.com/example/
• 301 #1 -- http://domain.com/example/ 301 redirects to https://www.domain.com/example/ (as it should have done originally)
• 200 -- https://www.domain.com/example/ resolves properly We're hosted on AWS, and one of my cloud architects investigated and reported GoDaddy was causing the two 302s. That's backed up online by posts like https://stackoverflow.com/questions/46307518/random-5-alpha-character-path-appended-to-requests and https://www.godaddy.com/community/Managing-Domains/My-domain-name-not-resolving-correctly-6-random-characters-are/td-p/60782. I reached out to GoDaddy today, expecting them to say it wasn't a problem on their end, but they actually confirmed this was a known bug (as of September 2017) but there is no timeline for a fix. I asked the first rep I spoke with on the phone to send a summary, and here's what he provided in his own words: From the information gathered on my end and I was able to get from our advanced tech support team, the redirect issue is in a bug report and many examples have been logged with the help of customers, but no log will be made in this case due to the destination URL being met. Most issues being logged are site not resolving properly or resolving errors. I realize the redirect can cause SEO issues with the additional redirects occurring. Also no ETA has been logged for the issue being reported. I do feel for you since I now understand more the SEO issues it can cause. I myself will keep an eye out for the bug report and see if any progress is being made any info outside of this I will email you directly. Thanks. Issue being Experienced: Domains that are set to Go Daddy forwarding IPs may sometimes resolve to a url that has extra characters appended to the end of them. Example: domain1.com forwards to http://www.domain2.com/TLYEZ. However it should just forward to http://www.domain2.com. I think this answers what some Moz users may have been experiencing sporadically, especially this previous thread: https://a-moz.groupbuyseo.org/community/q/forwarded-vanity-domains-suddenly-resolving-to-404-with-appended-url-s-ending-in-random-5-characters. My question: Given everything stated above and what we know about the impact of redirect chains on SEO, how severe should I rate this? How would you respond in my shoes? On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the biggest), how big of a technical SEO is this? Would you make it a priority? 301 Redirecting from domain to subdomain
We're taking on a redesign of our corporate site on our main domain. We also have a number of well established, product based subdomains. There are a number of content pages that currently live on the corporate site that rank well, and bring in a great deal of traffic, though we are considering placing 301 redirects in place to point that traffic to the appropriate pages on the subdomains. If redirected correctly, can we expect the SEO value of the content pages currently living on the corporate site to transfer to the subdomains, or will we be negatively impacting our SEO by transferring this content from one domain to multiple subdomains?

New Site (redesign) Launched Without 301 Redirects to New Pages - Too Late to Add Redirects?
We recently launched a redesign/redevelopment of a site but failed to put 301 redirects in place for the old URL's. It's been about 2 months. Is it too late to even bother worrying about it at this point? The site has seen a notable decrease in site traffic/visits, perhaps due to this issue. I assume that once the search engines get an error on a URL, it will remove it from displaying in search results after a period of time. I'm just not sure if they will try to re-crawl those old URLs at some point and if so, it may be worth it to have those 301 redirects in place. Thank you.

Php 301 redirect
Hi I am migrating an old wordpress site to a custom PHP site and the URL profiles will be different, so want to retain all link profiles and more importantly if a user visits the old urls via search then they are seamlessly transferred to the new equivalent page For example www.domain.com/about-us is going to need to redirect to www.domain.com/aboutus.php www.domain.com/furniture is going to need to redirect to www.domain.com/furniture-collections.php etc What is the best way of achieving this apart from .htaccess as not 100% confident of doing this. Could it be done via PHP or using meta tags?

How To 301 Redirect .html pages
I need to redirect a page/URL that is purely .html to a new location. I don't know how to do this. All the redirects I can find are for server side code pages .php/.aspx etc. From my understanding I can't put a server side redirect in a .html file. I am hosting on a microsoft server, however the new page I am redirecting to is .php. I am running some WordPress (.php) files on the server. I need to make it redirect before the old page loads so visitors don't start reading something that is about to get redirected Can someone please help me?
