          I've been on SEOmoz for about 1 month now and everyone says that depending on the type of business you should build up your website structure for SEO as 1st step.

          I have a new client click here   ( www version doesn't work)... some bugs we are fixing it now.

          We are almost finished with the design & layout.

          2nd question have been running though my head.

          1. What would the best url category for the shop be    /products/     - current url cat

          ex:   /products/door-handles.html

          2. What would you use for the main menu as section for getting the most out of SEO.

          Personally i am thinking of making 2-3 main categories on the left a section where i can add content to it (3-4 paragraphs... images maybe a video).So the main page focuses on the domain name more and the rest of the sections would focus on specific keywords, this why I avoid cannibalization.

          Main keyword target is "door handles"

          Any suggestions would be appreciated.

            Also think of website structure for analytics. The URL structure can make it easy to get some good information about the site. Lunametrics has a great post on this at http://www.lunametrics.com/blog/2010/09/22/designing-google-analytics-friendly-site/.

              I putted a Heat Map down there. I should you know it.

              So, as you can see, the navigation bar don't even shows any color. So i would recommend you to use the links just in the navigation, and use the left column spot to put other thing, some very attractive link, like best selling products maybe.

              You should use some Breadcrumbs below the navigation bar as the user gets deeper in the site. This is more for usability.

              I would suggest you to put in the Main Bar just a major category, like Door Articles. And then in it the user can choose between then, if he wants door handles, door hinges, door locks...

              It helped this way?

                More or less that was were we are going. My concern is that if we leave the categories on the left as main target for the keywords cat/keyword  we would loose the importance of the main nav.

                Will google treat the same way(importance) even if it's on the left and not in the main nav bar?

                If so what would you suggest to put at the top if all categories/keywords are targeted?

                  Hello!

                  1. The best URL would it be if you just put the door-handles straight from the home, less deeper. Like this:

                  http://doorhandle.ie/door-handles
                  http://doorhandle.ie/door-hinges
                  http://doorhandle.ie/door-locks
                  ....

                  1. To optimize your Home, you have to put the minimum links you can. Put just one link for DOOR HANDLES, or for DOOR LOCKS. But you choose where to put, at the left column or the top bar. Now you have to think about your users.

                  When you create a www, you have to use one as the main one. So redirect this actual one to the www version using 301 redirecting.

                  I would recommend you also put some keywords in H1 (just one tag of these in each page), about what the page is.

                  And use some rel=nofollow on the links that is not strictly of your business, like support, privacy policy or about us.

                    My website is constantly decreasing

                    loss of ranking

                    For few weeks ago my website is constantly decreasing in search position. I lost keywords and is gooooing down.
                    Although it is well rated on several on page and off page seo verification software that I have tried.
                    I checked Google search console and Analytics and found no major problems. However… from one day to another it keeps going down.
                    I also checked what the main competitors are doing and they are not doing well, at all.
                    The main competitor actually has a creepy website. Totally devoid of onpage or offpage SEO but with an enormous number of backlinks. And of a very bad quality, which should disqualify it, still…
                    Few weeks ago I changed something.
                    In the pages I had H1, 4xH2, no H3 and an H4 without content.
                    An unnatural H tag structure.
                    Now I have H1, H2, H3, 3xH4, with the coherent information.
                    Theoretically, Google should have been “happy” or I’m missing something. I use a SAAS platform.
                    I just found out that they made changes to the keywords (tags).
                    I am selling toner cartridges for printers.
                    So…
                    The tags are printer models and generate a url in which they have the products.
                    Ex. https://www.sertit.ro/cartus-imprimanta-cilindru-color-hp-laserjet-pro-m-177fw goes to the products for that printer model.
                    The question is… should I make tag canonical?
                    Is it possible for products to loose so much in Google search?

                    SEO - New URL structure

                    Hi, Currently we have the following url structure for all pages, regardless of the hierarchy: domain.co.uk/page, such as domain/blog name. Can you, please confirm the following: 1. What is the benefit of organising the pages as a hierarchy, i.e. domain/features/feature-name or domain/industries/industry-name or domain/blog/blog name etc. 2. This will create too many 301s - what is Google's tolerance of redirects? Is it worth for us changing the url structure or would you only recommend to add breadcrumbs? Many thanks Katarina

                    https:// What is the best way to redirect without losing seo positions? i have been mainly using http://www but have recently added my ssl so https works also. I heard at Moz Con that I should get the https working. All of my marketing and ads are going to http://www 301 redirect 3 of them? Which 3? If https is becoming important, should that be my main url? will it hurt my seo to switch? Thank you so much in advance!

                    SEO advice on ecommerce url structure where categories contain "/c/"

                    Hi! We use Hybris as plattform and I would like input on which url to choose. We must keep "/c/" before the actual category. c stands for category. I.e. this current url format will be shortened and cleaned:
                    https://www.granngarden.se/Sortiment/Husdjur/Hund/Hundfoder-%26-Hundmat/c/hundfoder To either: a. 
                    https://www.granngarden.se/husdjur/hund/hundfoder/c/hundfoder b.
                    https://www.granngarden.se/husdjur/hund/c/hundfoder (hundfoder means dogfood) The question is whether we should keep the duplicated category name (hundfoder) before the "/c/" or not. Will there be SEO disadvantages by removing the duplicate "hundfoder" before the "/c/"? I prefer the shorter version ofc, but do not want to jeopardize any SEO rankings or send confusing signals to search engines or customers due to the "/c/" breaking up the url breadcrumb. What do you guys say and prefer from the above alternatives? Thanks /Hampus

                    Best Web-site Structure/ SEO Strategy for an online travel agency?

                    Dear Experts! I need your help with pointing me in the right direction. So far I have found scattered tips around the Internet but it's hard to make a full picture with all these bits and pieces of information without a professional advice. My primary goal is to understand how I should build my online travel agency web-site’s (https://qualistay.com) structure, so that I target my keywords on correct pages and do not create a duplicate content. In my particular case I have very similar properties in similar locations in Tenerife. Many of them are located in the same villa or apartment complex, thus, it is very hard to come up with the unique description for each of them. Not speaking of amenities and pricing blocks, which are standard and almost identical (I don’t know if Google sees it as a duplicate content). From what I have read so far, it’s better to target archive pages rather than every single property. At the moment my archive pages are: all properties (includes all property types and locations), a page for each location (includes all property types). Does it make sense adding archive pages by property type in addition OR in stead of the location ones if I, for instance, target separate keywords like 'villas costa adeje' and 'apartments costa adeje'? At the moment, the title of the respective archive page "Properties to rent in costa adeje: villas, apartments" in principle targets both keywords... Does using the same keyword in a single property listing cannibalize archive page ranking it is linking back to? Or not, unless Google specifically identifies this as a duplicate content, which one can see in Google Search Console under HTML Improvements and/or archive page has more incoming links than a single property? If targeting only archive pages, how should I optimize them in such a way that they stay user-friendly. I have created (though, not yet fully optimized) descriptions for each archive page just below the main header. But I have them partially hidden (collapsible) using a JS in order to keep visitors’ focus on the properties. I know that Google does not rank hidden content high, at least at the moment, but since there is a new algorithm Mobile First coming up in the near future, they promise not to punish mobile sites for a collapsible content and will use mobile version to rate desktop one. Does this mean I should not worry about hidden content anymore or should I move the descirption to the bottom of the page and make it fully visible? Your feedback will be highly appreciated!                     SEO impact of the anatomy of URL subdirectory structure?

                    I've been pushing hard to get our Americas site (DA 34) integrated with our higher domain authority (DA 51) international website. Currently our international website is setup in the following format... website.com/us-en/ website.com/fr-fr/ etc... The problem that I am facing is that I need my development framework installed in it's own directory. It cannot be at the root of the website (website.com) since that is where the other websites (us-en, fr-fr, etc.) are being generated from. Though we will have control of /us-en/ after the integration I cannot use that as the website main directory since the americas website is going to be designed for scalability (eventually adopting all regions and languages) so it cannot be region specific. What we're looking at is website.com/[base]/us-en. I'm afraid that if base has any length to it in terms of characters it is going to dilute the SEO value of whatever comes after it in the URL (website.com/[base]/us-en/store/product-name.html). Any recommendations?

                    How to create a tree-like structure map of a website?

                    Hi all, The online marketing manager requested to make a tree-like map of the website. He means that he would like to see a graphical representation of the website and his contents. This way we will be able to see if there are internal link issues. The problem is that there are thousands of pages and many subdomains, manual labour would make this a very tedious task. If you would get this question, how would you try to solve this?
