Thanks for the good advice. Money is not really the issue, just not a fan of all the directories online, probably somewhat affected by all the directory-services calling me trying to sell me listings for insane amounts of money. (Local services here in Norway.) Good tips on using opensiteexplorer. Will definately take a look there.

Have you taken a look at your competitors and the pages they get backlinks from yet? http://www.opensiteexplorer.org For me it works fine to find free options (most of the times).

I know this one is good, but very hard to get into as not many sites qualify. Other than that I am not sure how many more out there would classify as Free AND Quality. Although there are good sites out there that you have to pay for, paying is not a sign of being bad, just like free is not a sign of good. If money is the issue then this a completely different story, But if it is just that you do not like paid directories, then in my opinion look at the directories on more factors other than that.. Last Cache data? Do they rank for their own brand name? Are they a PR 0? (Bad sign) Are they laden with Adsense and Affiliate links? (Bad Sign) Do they serve a purpose other than another directory in the thousands of directories? Are the sites all properly categorized? Do they allow bidding? (Bad sign) Do they allow all sites? or do they have strict rules on Pharmaceutical, Gambling, Drugs ect.... This is just a few things to look at hope this helps

Does an external link to an image file on my site help my SEO?
I found a few websites that are displaying images from my site. Curiously, they have also linked these images to the source image file on my website. I found these because Moz showed these sites in my list of backlinks. I assume that means it impacts my Domain Authority. But does this actually help me in search engines since it's not linking to a page on my site? Link Building | | AlexLenhoff0

Reposting Blog posts on 3rd party sites
We have a few informational blog posts that are valuable to some readers. We have posted them in our blog but were contemplating posting them on 3rd party blogging websites such as Blogger, Squidoo, etc.. Ideally we would continue to maintain these accounts with multiple blog posts, but would all be reposts of the original blog. These are not half english blog posts just hoping to gain a better Google rank. They will provide value to the readers who might not be finding their way to our website directly. Is posting these blog posts on the 3rd party websites, linking back to the original article and maybe some products that are related to the specific document going to negatively affect our rankings due to the duplication of the content? How do sites have so many 'total links'?
I've been analyzing some of our competitors: essayedge.com and papercheck.com Both sites have a large number of 'total links'... about 93,000 each. The former has about 1,200 linking root domains while the latter only has 195. Even for 1,200 linking root domains, 93k total links seems like a ton to me. Our site has 101 linking root domains and only 299 'total links'. I'm quite new to this whole SEO game and admittedly still learning a TON. Am I missing something here? How do sites generate so many links? This seems nuts to me. Thanks for any help! Link Building | | TBiz0

What are some good easy links to get for new sites?
We are in the process of launching a couple of new sites and while we know it will be a long process to get them to rank, achieving some long-tail keywords would be beneficial. What sites would you recommend for getting some easy links to start with that can help the indexation and ranking process along in the preliminary stages? Or another way to put the question - when you launch a new site, what steps do you go through?
