          Hey everyone

We have a read more button always at the end of the 4th paragraph. We used it so we always have the Photos section within the area of view...

          http://www.surfcampinportugal.com/

          Does this harm our SEO?

          Thanks in advance...

            Hey Davis

Thanks a million time for you long report, we have already got rid of the Read more button. I am working on a Call to action button at the moment, its quite tricky with a clean design like that 🙂 About the lack of content on the pages, do you recommend we put longer text`s or is it goo enough if we do good weekly blog posts?

best regards and thanks in advance...

              Hi Joshua,

In my opinion I do not believe the read more button is a good idea, but not because of an SEO issue.  I don't think it's hurting you because GoogleBot can tell the difference between a div hidden for spam and a div hidden for valid reasons.  See this quote :

The goal of our guidelines against hidden text and cloaking are to ensure that a user gets the same information as the Googlebot. However, our definition of webspam is dependent on the webmaster's intent. For example, common sense tells us that not all hidden text means webspam--e.g. hidden DIV tags for drop-down menus are probably not webspam, whereas hidden DIVs stuffed full of unrelated keywords are more likely to indicate webspam.

              Source

That being said, I do not think the "Read More" button is a good idea in your particular case for the following reasons :

              1. Your pages are a bit lacking in content.  You should be trying to beefing them up a bit, you are on the right track but could definitely use some improvement.  In most cases it seems like the "Read More" button is only hiding one or two sentences.
              2. If you want the photo section to always be in view I would recommend putting it in the sidebar or somehow off to the side.  I am running on a MacBook Pro at 1680x1050 and the "Read More" button is not even on my screen, much less the photos section.
              3. I can't find any discernable call-to-action on the pages, as a user i'm sort of unsure of the purpose of the site is aside from information.  If this is what you intended then more power to you, but it's always good to give the users some kind of action to follow, whether that be contacting you for a brochure, or booking a reservation.  Ann Smarty has a great article on how to do this.

If I were in your position I would nix the read more button, go with a 2 column layout and put the call to action in a very obvious spot in a color that stands out.  Maybe a big button with text that says "Learn to surf for only $35" or something.

I hope this helped and sorry if my advice was not what you are expecting!

The particular page cannot be indexed by Google

                indexing googlesearchconsole onpage

                Hello, Smart People!
We need help solving the problem with Google indexing.
All pages of our website are crawled and indexed. All pages, including those mentioned, meet Google requirements and can be indexed. However, only this page is still not indexed.
                Robots.txt is not blocking it.
We do not have a tag "nofollow"
We have it in the sitemap file.
We have internal links for this page from indexed pages.
We requested indexing many times, and it is still grey.
The page was established one year ago.
We are open to any suggestions or guidance you may have. What else can we do to expedite the indexing process?

How does Google handle read more tags in Wordpress

Hi Everyone I am wondering how Google handles the read more tag in Wordpress. I pasted the link to a blog post on Google and found nothing (domain.com/post#readmore). Then I paste the version without #readmore (domain.com/post) and found that Google indexed the page but with the option to click "read more" to read it. The full blog post is not in their index, just the version asking you to read more. Is this because Google hasn't gotten to it or is Google ignoring it. I am not sure but ideally I rather have the full blog post indexed, not the read more version. I am curious to whether this will cause duplicate content issues. What are your experience with this and is it advisable to use an alternate method for read more. Maybe with a Wordpress plugin. Thanks in advance.

Hiding body copy with a 'read more' drop down option

Hi I just want to confirm how potentially damaging using java script to hide lots of on page body copy with a 'read more' button is ? As per other moz Q&A threads i was told that best not to use Javascript to do this & instead "if you accomplish this with CSS and collapsible/expandable <DIV> tags it's totally fine" so thats what i advised my clients dev. However i recently noticed a big drop in rankings aprox 1 weeks after dev changing the body copy format (hiding alot of it behind a 'read more' button) so i asked them to confirm how they did implement it and they said: "done in javascript but on page load the text is defaulting to show" (which is contrary to my instructions) So how likely is it that this is causing problems ? since coincides with ranking drop OR if text is defaulting to show it should be ok/not cause probs ? And should i request that they redo as originally instructed (css & collapsible divs) asap ? All Best Dan

Putting content behind 'view more' buttons

Hi I can't find an upto date answer to this so was wondering what people's thoughts are. Does putting content behind 'view more' css buttons affect how Google see's and ranks the data. The content isn't put behind 'view more' to trick Google. In actual fact if you see the source of the data its all together, but its so that products appear higher up the page. Does anyone have insight into this. Thanks in advance
