How can I remove inbound links?

Thanks for the responses Guys! The reason I wanted to know more about removing links was because a website that I look after had stopped receiving GA stats. I looked at the inbound links and found a few that where completely unrelated to the site (one from Japan and not translatable). I did search for the Disavow tool from Google, but decided to try to contact the sites first to see if I can get the links removed that way. On closer inspection, and much worry, I discovered that the GA tracking had stopped! How could that happen? As far as I know I am the only one with access to FTP... Worrying, but fixed now and I have had an education about the Disavow tool and link removal along the way One more question: Are nofollow links harmful to a site if they are inbound?

Is this in response to a notice from Google or general house cleaning? And you need to asses if those links are actually causing you any harm in the first place, for example are they nofollow? First step in removing links is always to try and contact the webmaster and ask them to remove the links. this is important as this will then impact on all Search engines, not just Google which would be the case if you automatically went for Disavow tool. It also provides you an audit trail if in future you find you need to demonstrate to search engines, say through a reconsideration request, that you have made an effort to clean up your site and comply with webmaster guidelines, To find contact details for a website you can try contact details on the site itself or look them up with tools such as the whois directory. If contact fails, or if they demand money for removal then you should consider using Googles Disavow tool. Again please note this will only impact Google's algorithm. It should only really be a last resort however. You can access this through Webmaster tools, just search for disavow tool in the help section to the top right and follow the links,

Google Disavow, always good fun lol I would suggest that you ensure that this is required before going down this path.... it is very time consuming, can negatively effect your current rankings, and is often not required!

Before using Disavow you will need to make a concerted effort to manually have the links removed. A good tool to coordinate this would be Rmoov. I would use Disavow as the last thing, if all else fails.

Potential spam websites with high DA linking back to us
Hey everybody, I'm going through all my sites and disavowing crap links. However, I'm having trouble distinguishing which high DA sites to disavow. What would you do? For example: Moz Pro | | MEllsworth
https://a-moz.groupbuyseo.org/researchtools/ose/spam-analysis?site=busca.starmedia.com&target=domain&source=subdomain&page=1&sort=spam_score and https://a-moz.groupbuyseo.org/researchtools/ose/spam-analysis?site=cc879fe.activerain.com&target=domain&source=subdomain&page=1&sort=spam_score They both have tons of backlinks - both good and crap. The first has a DA of 72 and a Moz spam score of 4/17 and the second has a DA of 86 and a Moz spam score of 9/171

Remove geographic modifiers from keyword list
I just pulled a search term report for all of 2013 from my PPC account. What I got was 673,000 rows of terms that have garnered at least 1 impression in 2013. This is exactly what I was looking for. My issue is that the vast majority of terms are geo-modified to include the city, the city and state or the zip code. I am trying to remove the geographic information to get to a list of root words people are interested in based on their search query patterns. Does anyone know how to remove all city, state and zip codes quickly without having to do a find and replace for each geo-modifier in excel? for example, if i could get a list of all city and state combinations in the US and a list of all zip codes, and put that list on a separate tab and then have a macro find and remove from the original tab any instances of anything from the second tab, that would probably do the trick. Then I could remove duplicates and have my list of root words. Moz Pro | | dsinger0

How do Infographics provide links? (example inside)
Hi, I don't get it... Moz Pro | | BeytzNet
I've encountered the following infographic that seemed to do well: http://www.brilliance.com/4cs-of-diamonds-infograph As you can see, the page has thousands of social shares from Tweets to Facebook and obviously Pinterest. However, when I placed this page on Open Site Explorer (click to view) I see only 9 external links and page authority of 28/100. And this seems to me like a successful infographic. Any explanations? Thanks0

Why are inbound links not showing?
I run the site http://www.eurocheapo.com and am finding that many inbound links are not showing up in OSE and on the toolbar. For example, check out this hotel review: http://www.eurocheapo.com/paris/hotel/hotel-esmeralda.html In OSE it shows only 2 links (from 1 domain), which is crazy. It has dozens of inbound links from many different domains (links:http://www.eurocheapo.com/paris/hotel/hotel-esmeralda.html). I notice this all over my site. Pages that we link between are also showing no internal links -- which is easy to disprove. Was there a problem with this crawl? Or is the problem in our code? Many thanks for your help, Tom Moz Pro | | TomNYC0

Percentage of good links vs. bad
Hi Does anyone know the best way of determining good links from bad links using the SEO Moz tools? I bought some directory links to two or three pages on my site a few years back. The were all very obviously spammy because of the anchor text and I didn't have a high enough ratio of good links to counteract them. I read somewhere that if more than 10% of the links to a page have the same (or similar) anchor text, it's obvious that you're on the bad list.
