Is there any benefit of having a .tv tld instead of a .com for a video centric website?
-
We are launching a video dense website. Is there any evidence that having a .tv tld can help with video optimization? We are trying to find proof that Google looks at a .tv tld favorably for video SEO as opposed to a .tv website.
-
Google itself bought the exclusive rights to the .app TLD so there's that in the custom TLD column, but like you and others say here, .tv isn't one like that.
-
I've been well aware for years that Google's stock answer is "no, it won't help."
With the NEW tlds that are out, however, you have to think a bit more. Because yes, .melbourne will help you rank here faster than the same domain .com (it seems to act like an EMD).
I've registered & ranked many new TLDs since their debut. I have tested two with the same domain & different TLDs on more than one occasion and where appropriate some TLDs do rank better than others.
However, .tv is not one of these - .tv is a generic TLD (like .com) and won't affect anything positively or negatively. It's simply "just a domain." TV is ok to use although I agree with the others - .com is best if you can get it or something appropriate.
Hope that clarifies a bit for you and others thinking about the same thing. Some TLDs help (think .clothing) but the majority don't give any help either way.

I learned a long time ago in this game that a bad dot com is better than a good dot "anything else" (unless, of course, you are an organization or an educational institution).
The logic there is because, when in doubt, a user is far more likely to assume your site is a dot com when doing a direct visit. My suggestion to you would be to perform a couple searches for the keywords you want to rank for and see if there are any .tv domains ranking for that phrase.
If yes and you can buy a domain that is exact match or partial match to the types of videos you want to showcase, then maybe consider it.
Otherwise, its probably better to find a partial match .com for the types of keywords you want to rank for and build your site on that domain.
Hope this helps.

Way back in 2012 Matt Cutts said:
“I read a post by someone offering new top-level domain (TLDs). They made this claim: ‘Will a new TLD web address automatically be favoured by Google over a .com equivalent? Quite simply, yes it will.’
“Sorry, but that's just not true, and as an engineer in the search quality team at Google, I feel the need to debunk this misconception. Google has a lot of experience in returning relevant web pages, regardless of the top-level domain (TLD). Google will attempt to rank new TLDs appropriately, but I don't expect a new TLD to get any kind of initial preference over .com, and I wouldn't bet on that happening in the long-term either. If you want to register an entirely new TLD for other reasons, that's your choice, but you shouldn't register a TLD in the mistaken belief that you'll get some sort of boost in search engine rankings.”
and I have not seen anything to indicate that this is no longer true.
Some people like to get the new tlds because they feel that they will be attractive to the user, that if for instance people see a .tv they would choose it over another page because they would think that a .tv provides a better video experience.
This may be true, but on the other hand, there are plenty of people who no longer think of tv when they think of the video experience...

None that I know of. Most of the optimization tools available can be used on any domain. See: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/80472.
Video content includes web pages which embed video, URLs to players for video, or the URLs of raw video content hosted on your site. If Google cannot discover video content at the URLs you provide, those records will be ignored by Googlebot.
A .tv won't enhance the ability for Google to find your videos, but proper tagging and sitemapping will. Cheers!

Is there any benefit to changing 303 redirects to 301?
A year ago I moved my marketplace website from http to https. I implemented some design changes at the same time, and saw a huge drop in traffic that we have not recovered from. I've been searching for reasons for the organic traffic decline and have noticed that the redirects from http to https URLs are 303 redirects. There's little information available about 303 redirects but most articles say they don't pass link juice. Is it worth changing them to 301 redirects now? Are there risks in making such a change a year later, and is it likely to have any benefits for rankings?

SEO on dynamic website
Hi. I am hoping you can advise. I have a client in one of my training groups and their site is a golf booking engine where all pages are dynamically created based on parameters used in their website search. They want to know what is the best thing to do for SEO. They have some landing pages that Google can see but there is only a small bit of text at the top and the rest of the page is dynamically created. I have advised that they should create landing pages for each of their locations and clubs and use canonicals to handle what Google indexes. Is this the right advice or should they noindex? Thanks S

Using H3 before or instead of an H2...
My designer and I have been having an argument: we have a blog with short, 400 words posts. They have an H1 with nice keywords and a catchy title, and then a few subheadings. I don't like making the subheadings H2, because the font looks way too large in Wordpress, so my designer wants to make them all H4s, so the font looks to be a nicer size. Here's my problem with that and why I usually just bold the subheadings: Is it really bad to put a bunch of H4s right under an H1, with not H2's or 3's to separate? I'm reading different arguments on the internet about this and gladly welcome more debate and/or case studies. Thank you!

How to rank my website in Google UK?
Hi guys, I own a London based rubbish removal company, but don't have enough jobs. I know for sure that some of my competitors get most of their jobs trough Google searches. I also have a website, but don't receive calls from it at all. Can you please tell me how to rank my website on keywords like: "rubbish removal london", "waste clearance london", "junk collection london" and other similar keywords? I know that for person like me (without much experience in online marketing) will be difficult task to optimize the website, but at least - I need some advices from where to start. I'm also thinking to hire an SEO but not sure where to find a trusted company. Most importantly I have no idea how much should pay to expect good results? What is too much and what is too low? I will appreciate all advices.

Duplicate content on recruitment website
Hi everyone, It seems that Panda 4.2 has hit some industries more than others. I just started working on a website, that has no manual action, but the organic traffic has dropped massively in the last few months. Their external linking profile seems to be fine, but I suspect usability issues, especially the duplication may be the reason. The website is a recruitment website in a specific industry only. However, they posts jobs for their clients, that can be very similar, and in the same time they can have 20 jobs with the same title and very similar job descriptions. The website currently have over 200 pages with potential duplicate content. Additionally, these jobs get posted on job portals, with the same content (Happens automatically through a feed). The questions here are: How bad would this be for the website usability, and would it be the reason the traffic went down? Is this the affect of Panda 4.2 that is still rolling What can be done to resolve these issues? Thank you in advance.

Hello, I have a client that has a site with a .html plugin and I have read that its best to not have this. We currently have pages ranking with this .html plug in. However If we take the plug in out will we lose rankings? would we need a 301 or something?
