I just built this site for a client http://primedraftarchitecture.com.  It went live 3 weeks ago and the pages are getting indexed as per Webmaster Tools.  But I'm not seeing it rank for anything.

We're adding blog articles regularly and used Moz Local for local links and have been building links in other local directories (probably about 15 so far).

Usually I get some rankings, although very low, after just a week or two for new sites.

Does anyone see anything glaring that may be causing a problem?

            Matt,

For those ping tools do you put the url of the directory where the link is or the pages of the site that I'm trying to rank?

I have just went through this exact situation with a client website. We built a new search engine optimized website for a client for a specific event / date. There was some heavy competition and we built enough high quality links to get the job done. Month 1 went by - not much happened, month 2 went by and my client was freaking out and were really really worried. They were panicking and really unhappy.

I will give you the advice I gave them. All we can do as an seo provider is do the right kind of high quality work needed to beat the competition - which we have done. We can only use our best experience to do what we feel is the best thing to do in each situation. After we have done all the proper work, we then become a victim to wait on Mr. Google actually finding all those back links and or on site optimization we have improved. That step has to happen to properly re-rank the website based on the work we have done. As Google finds the new links, the rankings should slowly improve. Until then, not much happens.

You can ping your webpages with the links you want crawled, tweet them out and get then shared to increase the possibility of getting them crawled faster. But in the end it's still a waiting game.  We can gently help but cannot MAKE Google find all the links in the time we want.

In the end we crushed the first place rankings for our client well in time of the event. And it was a very successful event and the client was very pleased. However a few weeks before the rankings started exploding to the first position for multiple key words - the customer was in panic mode . They did not seem to understand or listen to what I was explaining and maybe did not believe me that we were just waiting on Google to find all the backlinks.

They thought that if I was an seo guy I should be able to get Google to find those links right away. So I think you are at the same stage when you just have to wait until Google finds those links to pass on some credit to your website.

Don't panic, don't worry - if you have done the work, you will get the credit to show on your website soon. Use a pinging service, ping out your pages with the links, share those pages on Twitter and click the links and get the links shared if you can. This may help get them noticed faster.

              Hope that helps,

              Joe

                247pinger.com

                bulkping.com

Those two usually do the job. Google (and thus a number of SEOs) suggests pinging isn't necessary but we test & test some more and this works. We've sped up the process many times using this tactic.

Link not working. Are you talking about primedraftarchitecture.com ?

I don't see a single link in Ahrefs for that site and only 1 single link in Majestic.

I can't tell if that's the site you're talking about but if it is, the links just aren't likely cached yet. Ping the directory links and they should get picked up faster.

The particular page cannot be indexed by Google

                      indexing googlesearchconsole onpage

                      Hello, Smart People!
We need help solving the problem with Google indexing.
All pages of our website are crawled and indexed. All pages, including those mentioned, meet Google requirements and can be indexed. However, only this page is still not indexed.
                      Robots.txt is not blocking it.
We do not have a tag "nofollow"
We have it in the sitemap file.
We have internal links for this page from indexed pages.
We requested indexing many times, and it is still grey.
The page was established one year ago.
We are open to any suggestions or guidance you may have. What else can we do to expedite the indexing process?

Should I optimize my home-page or a sub-page for my most important keyword

Quick question: When choosing the most important keyword set that I would like to rank for, would I be better off optimizing my homepage, or a sub page for this keyword. My thinking goes as follows: The homepage (IE www.mysite.com) naturally has more backlinks and thus a better Google Page Rank. However, there are certain things I could do to a subpage (IE www.mysite.com/green-widgets-los-angeles ) that I wouldn't want to do to the homepage, which might be more "optimal" overall. Option C, I suppose, would be to optimize both the homepage, and a single sub-page, which is seeming like a pretty good solution, but I have been told that having multiple pages optimized for the same keywords might "confuse" search engines. Would love any insight on this!

I have two pages ranking for the same keyword.

The index page and the targeted landing page for that keyword. They have different content, title, meta but I am competing with myself for the main keyword in the industry. What is the best way to fix this? 301 the keyword page to the index page?

Missing meta descriptions on indexed pages, portfolio, tags, author and archive pages. I am using SEO all in one, any advice?

I am having a few problems that I can't seem to work out.....I am fairly new to this and can't seem to work out the following: Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂 1. I am missing alot of meta description tags. I have installed "All in One SEO" but there seems to be no options to add meta descriptions in portfolio posts. I have also written meta descriptions for 'tags' and whilst I can see them in WP they don't seem to be activated. 2. The blog has pages indexed by WP- called Part 2 (/page/2), Part 3 (/page/3) etc. How do I solve this issue of meta descriptions and indexed pages? 3. There is also a page for myself, the author, that has multiple indexes for all the blog posts I have written, and I can't edit these archives to add meta descriptions. This also applies to the month archives for the blog. 4. Also, SEOmoz tells me that I have too many links on my blog page (also indexed) and their consequent tags. This also applies to the author pages (myself ). How do I fix this? Thanks for your help 🙂 Regards Nadia

301 redirects from several sub-pages to one sub-page

Hi! I have 14 sub-pages i deleted earlier today. But ofcourse Google can still find them, and gives everyone that gives them a go a 404 error. I have come to the understading that this wil hurt the rest of my site, at least as long as Google have them indexed. These sub-pages lies in 3 different folders, and i want to redirect them to a sub-page in a folder number 4. I have already an htaccess file, but i just simply cant get it to work! It is the same file as i use for redirecting trafic from mydomain.no to www.mydomain.no, and i have tried every kind of variation i can think of with the sub-pages. Has anyone perhaps had the same problem before, or for any other reason has the solution, and can help me with how to compose the htaccess file? 🙂 You have to excuse me if i'm using the wrong terms, missing something i should have seen under water while wearing a blindfold, or i am misspelling anything. I am neither very experienced with anything surrounding seo or anything else that has with internet to do, nor am i from an englishspeaking country. Hope someone here can light up my path 🙂 Thats at least something you can say in norwegian...

Is there a SEO penalty for multi links on same page going to same destination page?

Hi, Just a quick note. I hope you are able to assist. To cut a long story short, on the page below http://www.bookbluemountains.com.au/ -> Features Specials & Packages (middle column) we have 3 links per special going to the same page.
                      1. Header is linked
                      2. Click on image link - currently with a no follow
                      3. 'More info' under the description paragraph is linked too - currently with a no follow Two arguments are as follows:
                      1. The reason we do not follow all 3 links is to reduce too many links which may appear spammy to Google. 2. Counter argument:
The point above has some validity, However, using no follow is basically telling the search engines that the webmaster “does not trust or doesn’t take responsibility” for what is behind the link, something you don’t want to do within your own website.   There is no penalty as such for having too many links, the search engines will generally not worry after a certain number.. nothing that would concern this business though.  I would suggest changing the no follow links a.s.a.p. Could you please advise thoughts. Many thanks Dave Upton [long signature removed by staff]

Would it be bad to change the canonical URL to the most recent page that has duplicate content, or should we just 301 redirect to the new page?

Is it bad to change the canonical URL in the tag, meaning does it lose it's stats? If we add a new page that may have duplicate content, but we want that page to be indexed over the older pages, should we just change the canonical page or redirect from the original canonical page? Thanks so much! -Amy
