I just signed up for Moz recently, and have noticed that in my crawl errors, I have hundreds of issues with my title tag being too long. My business is selling prints for landscape/travel/nature photography, and I've built these pages dynamically to where the title tag for pages selling individual photos has the title of the photo for sale followed by a hyphen and then the brand name. The same goes for gallery pages "Gallery Name | Brand Name". Would it be worth it to shorten the title tags by removing the brand name from these pages? Or will that actually harm more than help?

          Thanks in advance!

I know this question is answered already but my 2c based on what we've changed about our onsites.

If your brand name includes a main keyphrase, we typically don't include it on every page. You basically end up "competing" with yourself for that keyphrase. There's no point having:

Syracuse Wedding Photographers | MyCompany Photography

and using that brand bit on every single page. You're over-telling Google that the page is photo related. (Photographers in general have this issue but it applies to MyCompany Plumbing and MyCompany Iphone Repair too.)

I always include the brand name where I can, but if it is too long because of that I do not hesitate to drop the brand name.

For the titles, whilst I think about it from an SEO perspective, it is also important to think of it from a CTR perspective too.  Sometimes you need that extra bit of description at the expense of the brand name.  To give an example, on some articles I find it better to put the month and year at the end instead of the brand name to increase CTR.  So basically, no I don't think it particularly matters, but it will vary on a case by case basis.

                Hey Mickey,

While brand is important on the site, I think you could probably get away with dropping it from depending on:
                a. are general keywords ultimately driving more sales and traffic? - my guess is that being in the industry that you're in the answer is yes since it can expand your reach and audience much greater.
                b. how often are you using the brand name throughout the rest of the site? - you could supplement the brand copy mentions with logo alt tags, H1 mentions, etc.

I would include the brand ending on any title tag that it will fit in and definitely try to include it in the home page.

                Hope that helps a bit!

                  Less Tags better for SEO?

I am currently reviewing my strategy when it comes to categories and tags on my site.  Having been no-indexed for some time, and having many tags with just one entry I am thinking that this is not optimal for SEO purposes. This is what I am planning: Categories - Change these to Index, but only after adding a hundred words or so by way of introduction (see this example - https://www.besthostnews.com/news/hosting/a-small-orange-news/).  With the categories I am thinking of highlighting key articles as well to improve link juice distribution to older articles that are important. Tags - About half my tags have only 1 entry, with a few more just having 2 entries.  I am thinking of deleting all tags with just one entry, and trying to merge those with just two or 3 entries where it makes sense to do so.  I will keep these as no-index, but I think this will mean more optimal distribution of link juice within the site. I would appreciate your thoughts \ suggestions on the best practices here.

                  Business Name is Meta Description

I would like to know what your opinion would be regarding the business name displayed in the meta description. Would you write your business name as: Business Name or BusinessName™ (no space with Trademark) I used MOZ example from here (Meta Descriptions Best Practice) and inserted the different business names. Welcome to Business Name in San Diego, California - the nation's largest urban cultural park. Home of 15 major museums, renowned performing arts venues... Welcome to businessname™ in San Diego, California - the nation's largest urban cultural park. Home of 15 major museums, renowned performing arts venues... I'm not sure which would be best for Google and other search engines. Thanks for your help.

What are "stop" words in Title Tags?

My client is following his GoDaddy SEO Checklist, and it is reporting 5 errors in Title Tags, saying the Titles contain "stop" words. I can't figure out what these are. Any ideas?

                  Multiple Cities in Title Tag

My question is how to avoid having a spammy title. Currently I'm working on a project where a business serves four cities, but two of them are out of its home state. I'm trying to create a title tag that is appealing to the eyes, and meets what I need it to do at the same time. I was wondering what everyone though of this sample Brand X Dealer Serving Newark, DE; New Castle, DE; Glens Mills, PA; and Springfield, PA I know that too much repetition can be a bad thing, but this might not be a big deal since they are separate instances. Let me know what you all think. Thanks!

How do I remove a Canonical URL Tag?

Some of my report cards say I have too many canonical URL tags. However, there is no information no how to delete one. Can someone give me a link or explain? Thanks.

                  Important keywords in product names

Hi! among other we sell motorcycle clothing, which you can buy as a set (both jacket and pants) or single piece. Currently we name the products with the labeling in the beginning, e.g: Motorcycle pants R2000, Motorcycle jacket R2000, Motorcycle kit R2000 Motorcycle pants R4000, Motorcycle jacket R4000, Motorcycle kit R4000 This is causing keyword stuffing and cannibalization in the category pages as all the product names include important keywords. On the other hand it would be beneficial to keep the labeling in the name for search queries for the exact product. What be your recommendations? I tend to take the labeling away.

                  Keyword Stuffing in Alt Tags!

Hello, I have on a main page over 50 images. The first page i want to optimize it for MAINKW (let's say). Now, if i use in the alt tags "MAINKW KW1", "MAINKW KW2", "MAINKW KW3" ... "MAINKW KW50" then Google may say that i stuff the MAINKW in that page? Those images are reprezentative for main Categories and i have direct links to them from the main page with the anchors KW1, KW2...KW50.
