      Hello there,

We are about to launch a new website and were wondering what impact a specific suffix would have from an SEO point of view.

We were thinking about going for a domain which ends in .london as oppose to .com

We are based in London and sell world wide via our website.

We are suggesting www.domain.london as oppose to www.domain.com

      I would appreciate your views...

      Thanks

        Hi,

Matt is very rightly said "If you want to sell worldwide, I wouldn't use .london extension" . Apart from that Matt cutts said in 2012

"Google has a lot of experience in returning relevant web pages, regardless of the top-level domain (TLD). Google will attempt to rank new TLDs appropriately, but I don’t expect a new TLD to get any kind of initial preference over .com, and I wouldn’t bet on that happening in the long-term either. If you want to register an entirely new TLD for other reasons, that’s your choice, but you shouldn’t register a TLD in the mistaken belief that you’ll get some sort of boost in search engine rankings."

        Hope that helps

        Thanks

To add to Matt's good earlier response, the TLD extension that you use (.com, .net, .info) will have a minimal impact on your ability to rank well and the site's overall SEO.  For ranking specific websites in specific countries (and regions like London etc), Google looks at a bunch of more important factors, such as server location, schema, hreflang setup, citations, NAPs and so on.

If you want to sell worldwide, I wouldn't use .london extension. This extension specifically tells Google (and buyers) that you are local to London. Sometimes I understand why Aussies or Americans would order from .co.uk but usually only if it's our last choice, honestly. So why would we order from a .london if there's ANY other choice?

You could run a .com or .net as your main domain and then run .london geotargeted to your UK audience. I think it's a mistake to use it globally.

When creating a sub-domain, does that sub-domain automatically start with the DA of the main domain?

We have a website with a high DA and we are considering sub-folder or sub-domain. One of the great benefits of a sub-folder is that we know we get to keep the high DA, is this also the case for sub-domains? Also if you could provide any sources of information that specify this, I can't see to find anything!

The main navigation is using JS, will this have a negative impact on SEO?

Hi mozzers, We just redesigned our homepage and discovered that our main nav is using JS and when disabling JS, no main nav links was showing up. Is this still considered bad practice for SEO? https://cl.ly/14ccf2509478 thanks

Linking from & to in domains and sub-domains

What's the best optimised linking between sub-domains and domains? And every time we'll give website link at top with logo...do we need to link sub-domain also with all it's pages? If example.com is domain and example.com/blog is sub-domain or sub-folder... Do we need to link to example.com from /blog? Do we need to give /blog link in all pages of /blog? Is there any difference in connecting domains with sub-domains and sub-folders?

Unique domains vs. single domain for UGC sites?

Working on a client project - a UGC community that has a DTC model as well as a white label model. Is it categorically better to have them all under the same domain? Trying to figure which is better: XXX,XXX pages on one site vs. A smaller XXX,XXX pages on one site and XX,XXX pages on 10-20 other sites all pointing to the primary site. The thinking on the second was that those domains would likely achieve high DA as well as the primary, and would passing their value to the primary. Thoughts? Any other considerations we should be thinking about?

Weird 404 URL Problem - domain name being placed at end of urls

Hey there. For some reason when doing crawl tests I'm finding pages with the domain name being tacked on the end and causing 404 errors.
For example:  http://domainname.com/page-name/http://domainname.com This is happening to all pages, posts and even category type 1. Site is in Wordpress
              2. Using Yoast SEO plugin Any suggestions? Thanks!

SEO value in multiple backlinks from same domain and from various sub-domains.

A site has a link to my site as one of their main tabs, which means whenever a user clicks through to another page within the site, my link - being a main tab - is there. This creates thousands of links from this site. How does Google treat this? Do we have a rough formula estimate. In other words, assume it creates 1,000 backlinks would the SEO value be around the same as if I had just 2 link total as a main tab, but on 2 different non-related sites? Or, does it actually count fully as 1,000 links? Links from various sub-domains. Several .EDU's are linking to my site. Different schools within the overall same university. Example: nursing.abc.edu links to my site, but so does business.abc.edu. For SEO does that count as much as if I had links from complete non-related universities, or would Google evaluate that these links are related (since same main domain) and that will discount any links more than 1 to some extent? If discounted, then what do we estimate the discount to be? thank yoyu

How do 302 redirects from Akamai content targeting impact SEO?

How do 302 redirects from Akamai content targeting impact SEO? I'm using Akamai content targeting to get people from countries and languages to the right place (eg www.abc.123 to redirect to www.abc.123/NL-nl/default.aspx where folks from the Netherlands get their localized site in dutch) and from the edge server closest to them.  As far as I know Akamai doesn't allow me to use anything but a 302.  Anyone run across this?  is this 302 a problem?  I did a fetch as googlebot on my main domain and all I see is the Akamai 302.  I can't imagine this is the first time Akamai has run across this but I would like to know for sure.
