          Hi everyone.

I'm currently doing some SEO for a client, at the moment he has some landing pages which are categorised, but the category is set as a 302 redirect. I have a dilemma whether to 301 redirect to the landing page or make a page for each category.

The link structure is as follows -

          http://examplesite.co.uk/products/fire/company-1/product/

so currently this is set as a 302 redirect -

          http://examplesite.co.uk/products/fire/company-1/

Do I make this page a category page and link the page to the children with some on-page optimisation or 301 redirect it?

We all agree that you should get rid of those 302's .

Then, Im kind of getting the idea... So, you're saying the possible solution: Turn the category pages into landing pages.

It's logical to me too. Of course making that move, will need well organization and a bit of preparation, so as nothing gets lost.

              Hi Gaston,

It's a little difficult to explain without giving project details out but it's a little like this -

The company specialises in glass, they supply and fit a wide range of glass from other suppliers, so there are categories for each company that makes the glass and then the individual types of glass inside those categories.

e.g. Pilkington Glass - The Company that makes the glass. PyroClear - the product they make.

The first landing page is for fire glass (a general term), which then has a side navigation for the companies that make the glass, currently they link nowhere but on hover they show the more specific products which then link through to the pages.

But it's problematic for breadcrumbs etc, if someone click the brand of glass it just redirects with a 302 re-direct to the fire glass homepage. which could frustrate people and increase bounce rate.

Currently these categories just use a 302 redirect, I think there may be an opportunity to make these category pages into landing pages for broad search terms, which can then link to the more specific products. it would be more logical for the breadcrumbs and could serve a purpose for SEO.

I hope this makes more sense!

              Lee

In that case you , you really want do the canonical tag to avaid as such potential harm.

No, of course! The site is currently using 302 redirects which were put in place by the web team. thanks for the help!

                    Hi lee,

Both pages show the exact same information?

If yes, then just add a canonical declaring the correct page to index and keep updated the sitemap.xml with the correct URLs.
                    Here some info about those:

                    Canonicalization  - Moz
XML Sitemaps: Guidelines on Their Use - Moz

If no, then I don't fully understand your problem.

                    Hope it helps.
                    GR.

In my opinion this could be address by using canonical tags however, 302 redirection is never been advice for this purposes.

Here is Google guide for your batter understanding. : https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/139066?hl=en

                        Solve Redirect Chains

                        redirect help http

I've gotten a few Redirect Issues that involve Redirect Chains, with the https:// version redirecting to the www. version and then redirecting to the right URL. Here is an example:
Schermafbeelding 2021-12-07 om 11.04.32.png I've tried setting a direct redirect between the first and the last URL, but WordPress doesn't seem to allow that (it's overwritten). I've also tried checking the internal links to make sure that none of the links are the first one. They don't seem to be there. Does anyone have any tips on solving these Redirect Chains?

                        Page Optimization Error

Hi, I am trying to track a page optimization feature for one of my project, https://shinaweb.com but i keep getting this below error: "PAGE OPTIMIZATION ERROR
There was a problem loading this page. Please make sure the page is loading properly and that our user-agent, rogerbot, is not blocked from accessing this page." I checked robots.txt file, it all looks fine. Not sure what is the problem? Is it a problem with Moz or the website?

Should I redirect a popular but irrelevant blog post to the home page?

Hi. I'm trying to get my website; www.ciphr.com , to rank for keywords relevant to "HR Software" in the UK.  It's a highly competitive industry and we rank ~mid to low on page one for some of our ideal keywords that are highly relevant and high volume. Years ago we took the decision to blog about topics more loosely related to the world of work. One of our blog posts, about plants in the office https://www.ciphr.com/advice/plants-in-the-office/   is popular. It gets decent traffic and consistently builds backlinks to the post without any further effort on our part. The specific page has a PA of 46 and DA of 55 with >500 domains linking to it.  This compares to our home page with a PA of 47 and 700 linking domains. It is typically the home page that ranks for our money keywords "HR Software" "HR Systems" in the UK. Because this blog post is so loosely related to our actual business, the traffic it generates is highly unlikely to  turn into a customer of ours. I am considering redirecting the blog post to the home page to pass link juice to the home page. The concern I have is that, based on the anchor text and contextual signals from linking pages, Google might then infer that our home page is less relevant for our money keywords and more relevant for "plants". Are my concerns unfounded? What are your thoughts? Should I redirect the blog post to the home page? Another internal page?  Keep the blog post live? Thanks

Should I optimize my home-page or a sub-page for my most important keyword

Quick question: When choosing the most important keyword set that I would like to rank for, would I be better off optimizing my homepage, or a sub page for this keyword. My thinking goes as follows: The homepage (IE www.mysite.com) naturally has more backlinks and thus a better Google Page Rank. However, there are certain things I could do to a subpage (IE www.mysite.com/green-widgets-los-angeles ) that I wouldn't want to do to the homepage, which might be more "optimal" overall. Option C, I suppose, would be to optimize both the homepage, and a single sub-page, which is seeming like a pretty good solution, but I have been told that having multiple pages optimized for the same keywords might "confuse" search engines. Would love any insight on this!

                        301 Redirect to external site

Hi guys, We have a client who is getting their website redesigned through us. They are discontinuing couple of their services which will not get featured in the new site. They are fairly well ranked for these services and my client wishes to 301 redirect these pages to an external site owned by his friend so that they benefit out of the ranking. The question is: Will my client's website's general ranking get affected due to 301 redirecting to an external site? The external site is not spammy or red-flagged by Google (at the moment, at least). Thanks in advance!

Noindex child pages (whose content is included on parent pages)?

I'm sorry if there have been questions close to this before... I've using WordPress less like a blogging platform and more like a CMS for years now... For content management purposes we organize a lot of content around Parent/Child page (and custom-post-type) relationships; the Child pages are included as tabbed content on the Parent page. Should I be noindexing these child pages, since their content is already on the site, in full, on their Parent pages (ie. duplicate content)? Or does it not matter, since the crawlers may not go to all of the tabbed content? None of the pages have shown up in Moz's "High Priority Issues" as duplicate content but it still seems like I'm making the Parent pages suffer needlessly... Anything obvious I'm not taking into consideration? By the by, this is my first post here @ Moz, which I'm loving; this site and the forums are such a great resource! Anyways, thanks in advance!

                        URL for location pages

Hello all We would like to create clean, easy URLs for our large list of Location pages. If there are a few URLs for each of the pages, am I right when I'm saying we would like this to be the canonical? Right now we would like the URL to be: For example
Domain.com/locations/Columbus I have found some instances where there might be 2,3 or more locations in the same city, zip. My conclusion for these would be: adding their Branch id's on to the URL
Domain.com/locations/Columbus/0304 Is this an okay approach? We are unsure if the URL should have city,State, zip for SEO purposes?
The pages will have all of this info in it's content
BUT what would be best for SEO and ranking for a given location? Thank you for any info!
