Do links from such sites as TripAdvisor give any weight or support for SEO

And what about other sites like quora or other niche forums/blogs where one might leave answers, with a link to their profile, which has a link back to the owner's website? _Cindy

OK - thank you, good to know.

There are sites like that. For example, this one. Moz will remove the "nofollow" from your profile and first custom URL once you accrue 200 mozPoints, presumably because you have shown yourself to be a trusted contributor. The question remains however as to how much this is worth in Google's eyes. Since I work for a financial publishing company those links probably are not as useful as they might be to someone who works for an SEO company, since they are not directly relevant. Guest posting and commenting used to be big link-building strategies, but not so much anymore.

Thank you Linda. My first reaction was why not incentivize authorities within particular industries to comment and answer questions on such a sites with link juice, but it makes sense now that people would try to take advantage And I guess it would asking too much for publishers of such forums/review sites to give link juice for approved authors...? Maybe then I'm think more of a reputable news publication... _Cindy

 right of course nofollow
 thank you.

OK thank you - that helps clarify my questions. So while the link may not carry weight if you were to gain traffic to the website, along with smart link building, that could be of help. If I'm understanding your response. Thanks again - much appreciated! _Cindy

Take it on a site by site basis. Most of these sites have nofollowed all self-created links because of spammers and people trying to use the platform for link building. Shoot, I just did that on my own site I completely agree with Linda about exposure and referral traffic. If it's a targeted audience, you can definitely drive a lot of traffic from these sorts of sites. I've seen some sites where if you get mentioned, it can literally drive thousands of visits per month to your site.

As a general rule, a link that anyone can get by just placing one there is unlikely to give SEO benefit. And as mcncll said, most of those types of links are nofollow, anyway. The benefit of the type of the type of link you are talking about is exposure and possible referral traffic. (Assuming the answer that is posted is a good one, of course.)

It depends on how the first link is treated; links from profiles are often set as 'nofollow' and so pass no value to the target page. Quickly checking on Quora, for example, they use a 'nofollow' tag on their links from answer contributor names.

Redirecting dofollow, high-domain-authority links from one site to another: good idea?
I have two sites that offer help for freelance writers. The first gets almost no search traffic and is very low priority for me. The second is my main priority and gets substantial search traffic. The low-priority site has a significant number of dofollow backlinks from high-domain-authority sites. Is it a good idea to 301 redirect these links to similar/related posts on my high-priority site? Would this potentially boost the SEO of my high-priority site? Thanks for any help! Link Building | | John88990

What is the best way to remove a link that redirects to a spammy site?
I've got a new client and I'm trying to clean up their backlinks. There are several links that all redirect to this spam site http://www.expert-lender.com. All of the websites appear to be real, i.e. http://www.sammorganhomes.com/ but the actual links i.e http://www.sammorganhomes.com/wp-fav/backup/supplement/semitruckleasing.html are in a sub-directory and redirect to the spam site. I don't know if these links were from the previous SEO company or if they paid someone to create these or if these sites have been hacked. Can anyone tell me what is going on here and what should I tell these site owners? Link Building | | Total-Design-Shop0

Best SEO practice to redirect affiliate link
Hello, I got an affiliate program on my website, that redirects the affiliate link to the main site like: site.com/ads/aff_code/ -> site.com/ (The redirect is done using a 301 status code.) On the redirect process the site stores a cookie to track the affiliate sale. Will Google and others SE follow this permanent redirect, transferring the relevance of this affiliate link to my main site? In other words, if an affiliate does something wrong (like spams), does the bad reputation will be transferred to my main site? Is there a better way to do that from a SEO standpoint? Thanks, Link Building | | darkmediagroup0

		Article submission web-sites and SEO
Does article submission web-sites have any impact to SEO in these days? There are a lot of good/not so good article submission databases, but does it really matter if you spend a time to write unique articles for them? I mean, is it a good way for link-building, or should I spend more time for other parts of SEO? There are also a special websites (for example SubmitYourArticle) which automate this process, does it make sense to use this services? Alternates? Lots of questions… Update Sorry, I found some good answers only after that I posted this question. Link Building | | ditoroin0

Link building for a product review site
I'm doing SEO for a product review website, and I'm curious what link building opportunities are best for this category. Assume only the following: The website is basically a blog Most of the articles are reviews on cosmetic products, though there are also articles regarding news, product roundups, tips&tricks and similar content The website is in a local, non-english language Disregarding low-value opportunities such as directories, what kind of websites should I aim for outreach purposes? So far, I'm thinking the following: Product manufacturers (very low success chance, as the review site is fairly new and in a localized language) E-commerce sites selling the products (average to low success chance, since a lot of them use CMSes that might not allow integration of a review) Other cosmetic blogs, particularly for guest blogging (average to low success chance, since the website is fairly new) Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks! Image only badges giving link juice!?!?
I see some chatter about badges, but no clear definition. A collegue of mine instituted badges on clients website, but these badges are only an image w/ hyperlink; no textual content. He is confident that this has worked successfully before as a link building strategy, which blew my mind. I thought we needed some text, and obviously optimizes anchor text for biggest benefit. Are these simple badges helpful, or do we need some html in there!? He also routes them through bit.ly to track impressions and clicks.. does that have any effect as well? Thanks! Is it important to have a geo modifier for local SEO link building?
If anyone here is familiar with local SEO, you may have noticed that there are different local results for: "city + Keyword" and just the "keyword". When building links will you end up targeting both with a geo modifier in the link, or is it beneficial to build links without the geo modifer for the keyword?
