In my opinion you shouldn‘t ’chase’ a backlink with the only aim to improve your DA. Which after all is an estimation and always needs to be taken into context with other metrics.
You should go after backlinks that are on relevant websites that will also bring your site:

Potential referral traffic

Potential brand awareness

In my experience low DA links do not hurt as long as the bulk of your links are not coming from them. There may be some really great sites that are newer and have not built up DA but I'd still like them to link to us. As long as they're not spammy garbage you should be good.

As a rule of thumb yes but......
one or two low DA links to your domain won't hurt but a lot of low DA backlinks sends a signal that you are trying to game the system and your serp will suffer as a result.
Moz found during one of its studies that a backlink from a high domain authority page on a low domain authority website provides more value than a backlink from the opposite.
If you are building backlinks it is best to aim for higher DA sites as they will help more than hurt.

Ultimately, Google doesn't care what the site's DA is. DA is also easily manipulated. Before you start obtaining links from these sites, it's important to do your due diligence. Ensure the site's aren't low quality or being spammed with low quality links (which could bring up DA while still hurting a site in Google’s eyes).
Realistically, the best links to obtain are going to be from quality sites with high relevancy. Quality sites are sites that have a healthy backlink profile and history.
Keep in mind, create link only with relevant site in a professional manner. Never do spamming.

As we all attempt to get backlinks for the sites we manage, I have to wonder if it's worth it at all to get a nofollow backlink. Hidden Backlinks
Hi, I hope someone can help me with this. We have a competitor who appears to be ranking No1 for a competitive search term with a very lame site and above some authoritative sites. He has been here for some time as well. When we check out his back link profile through OSE, Majestic and Ahrefs they show as only 3 backlinks from no PR sites. However, someone pointed out that they could be using a link network that is blocking every crawler apart from Google, Yahoo and BIng. I would like to know if there is a way to confirm this. For instance I know that we can use screaming frog to mimic Googlebot, however, if there a way to reveal the real backlinks to a site like this using any tools. Thanks

Backlinks From Scraper Sites - Should I Disavow Them?
I'm going through all the links (hopefully) to my website and I've found so many links from site scrapers. For instance: http://www.fzccg.com/cmsteam/dvbbs/boke.asp?zkhod76681.showtopic.148760.html ... which links to my site with anchor text "abercrombie uk How To Change Your Wiper Blades" It is surely not realistic to think that I can contact all the scraper site owners. So what should I do with this kind of links?

Linking strategy between my own sites
Hi, I have one main site, let's call it food.com I also have 10 smaller sites, let's call them mexicanfood.com, indianfood.com, italianfood.com etc food.com is on its own separate dedicated server the 10 smaller sites are all on a shared IP in hostgator I don't want Google to think that I have created the 10 sites for only purpose of creating links to each other. So, would you recommend that all those 10 sites link to each other? or should there be no interlinking within those 10 same IP domains? What about linking from those 10 sites to my main site? How should I structure my own backlinks not to get penalized by Google ?

What are some good easy links to get for new sites?
We are in the process of launching a couple of new sites and while we know it will be a long process to get them to rank, achieving some long-tail keywords would be beneficial. What sites would you recommend for getting some easy links to start with that can help the indexation and ranking process along in the preliminary stages? Hi All I am a newbie to SEO and have a quick Q. Assuming that appropriate steps would be to; a) Ensure all onsite matters are are correct, title tags, meta descriptions, redirects, canonical issues. b) Submit to Directories c) Build Links I am approaching step b) Which Directories are worth submitting to? For those which require payment, how can I decide which are value for money or should I just use SEOMOZ list of links and assume that theyre worth the $50 - $100 if my higher ranking competitors have links from these directories.
