In running one of my campaigns in SEOMoz Pro, it was recommended that I reduce the amount of times a keyword is used to 15.  On the actual page, there are fewer than 15, but when you include the number of times it is used in drop-downs from the nav bar, the number is 53.

I know there is really no hard and fast rule about how many instances of a keyword make for keyword stuffing and the drop-downs only use the term where needed.  Without it's use, it would be difficult to navigate the site.

Is this a problem or should I focus on more important fixes?

Agreed.  This also would have an effect on sitelinks displayed.  Focused keyword navigation leads to better sitelinks.

Don't forget that internal anchor text can determine which pages Google shows on a given SERP. If you do overuse a keyword in your internal anchor text it does dilute the keyword across the site. It's perhaps better to reduce the number of times a keyword is used in internal anchor text to focus a keyword, and links from that keyword, onto a particular page.

Take a look at the Lynx web browser to see how Google would see the website:

                http://www.lynxbrowser.com/

Alternatively, check out the Google cache of your website or use a googlebot simulator. You will see that everything in your HTML, including your navigation, is read by Google.

If you are running an eCommerce operation you can safely ignore some of the warnings that SEOmoz shows. For example, many eCommerce stores will have an excess of 100 links due to a large navigation, shopping categories in the sidebar, and product images/titles. The same is true for keyword count.

As long as you aren't overdoing it you are fine. If you have a tennis website, a proper navigation might have "rackets" as the parent category, and then list child categories by color. You should not have the children listed by "Blue tennis rackets," "Yellow tennis rackets," and so on. Duplicating a keyword like this is not necessary.

From what I have seen, yes keywords in drop down menus count. It is searchable text. However, the search engines are more sophisticated and can count in-content and out-of-content keywords. I don't believe you should worry about it. But it is always worth testing. Do you currently rank for that keyword?

MoZ vs SEMRush - Keyword Difficulty and Keyword With Low Competition.

Hi, My question is very focussed regarding these 2 tools. Is it correct to understand that MoZ tells keyword difficulty and not which keyword is easy to compete. And SEMRush tells which keyword is easy to compete but does not tell which keywords are difficult to compete? I mean one (Moz)  misses the one part and the other (SEMRush) misses the other part. Hope some will enlighten me to the point. Best

Remove geographic modifiers from keyword list

I just pulled a search term report for all of 2013 from my PPC account.  What I got was 673,000 rows of terms that have garnered at least 1 impression in 2013.  This is exactly what I was looking for. My issue is that the vast majority of terms are geo-modified to include the city, the city and state or the zip code.  I am trying to remove the geographic information to get to a list of root words people are interested in based on their search query patterns. Does anyone know how to remove all city, state and zip codes quickly without having to do a find and replace for each geo-modifier in excel? for example, if i could get a list of all city and state combinations in the US and a list of all zip codes, and put that list on a separate tab and then have a macro find and remove from the original tab any instances of anything from the second tab, that would probably do the trick.  Then I could remove duplicates and have my list of root words.

Capitalization matters? Are Keywords treated as Case Sensitive?

I have searched the forum for this questions and basically found the following answer: “Neither Google nor SEOmoz treat keywords as case sensitive. For example, “Jobfair” and “jobfair” should return the same results.” http://www.seomoz.org/q/does-capitalization-matter http://www.seomoz.org/q/are-keywords-case-sensitive http://www.seomoz.org/q/capitalisation-of-campaign-keywords-why-does-this-affect-traffic-but-not-rankings How then can it be that I get the following results in the Rankings Report? (see example pic) And more importantly, which one is correct? sCx74sd.jpg

Is there any way to move keywords from one Campaign to another?

We recently moved content off a subdomain onto our main www subdomain.  Each of these was previously tracked as its own campaign.  Now that the content is consolidated, I'd like to move the keywords that we were tracking on the first campaign over to the second. I don't see an option to migrate, or export/import keywords.  Is there any (non-manual) way to do this? Thanks

                    Keyword Difficulty Score Not Available

What exactly does this mean? That the service is down? Or the score will never be available? It seems like I get that and then the tool gets stuck and I get no other data.

What kind of keyword difficulty should I be aiming for when launching an new site?

I know that words in their 20's or 30's would be ideal, but it's proving hard for me to find relevant keywords with such scores (just a couple with scores in the 30's). Is going for words between 40-50 a waste of time? Thanks.

What is mT/mR good for In the keyword tool difficulty full report results?

So the ratio is MozTrust to MozRank, but what is this good for?  What can I deduce from this and what can I use it for?
