I would make them return a 410 not 404
410's are dead links if you use a 404 google will keep coming back to see if you fixed the 404
sending google to a 410 lets them know it's gone

Have a site that currently was ranking well for 5 of your chosen keywords.
Were the keywords exact match to the domain?
When you say the new site how new are we talking about?
You put this under black hat white hat please don't take offense to this, but is there anything you want to tell me that you've done to the site that Google might not like?
When you are hacked did you completely clean up everything are you certain it is clean? If not please run your domain through this and tell me if you get any thing like black listing or something similar to tell if there is anything negative from a hack still affecting your website please use the link below type your domain name and and and enter allow it to process
After that please use this tool and remember it takes a little bit so don't. Refresh or the back button unless you're certain it is done. This will tell us rather not your site has been told to blocked access to Google bot

I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is you show up fine in Yahoo and Bing unfortunately you have to click one more button to show perfectly in Google. However I'm using the tool that I strongly strongly suggest that you use

100% free for windows, Mac and Linux up to 500 pages per domain it tells you everything listed in the URL above. And will actually check your index status if you right-click on the a link that you want checked.
I believe that it is a matter of time however I would adjust your robot text to suit the information found at yoast.com below and in addition to that I would add your site map
so your robot text looks like this.
I would change my robot text to

Disallow:
Sitemap: http://www.example.com/sitemap.xml
In addition I have to go to work honestly or I am dead however I believe the frog spider will help you very much and if you add the site map to the robot text that never will hurt.

More disturbing is amount of URLs without title tags in the more in-depth crawls.
My strongest suggestion is that you contact a developer.

Honestly the only way I would do that is if you have then hit by a penalty that Google is told you about. And you can check this via the e-mail account attached to Google Webmaster tools.
Without that information, its very hard to understand why you disavow no follows or any links at all unless you have been hit with a penalty. Truthfully you are better off spending your time earning good links there worrying about no follows hurting you.
If you have been contacted by Google then told the you are penalized then they will need to see you've actually tried to contact the webmasters of websites with the offending links pointing to your site and ask the webmasters to remove the links. Rather they do it or not is up to them however if they are a spam directory or something of that nature when you disavow the links during the reconsideration request you must show that you at least tried to get them to remove these offending links.
However to be honest with you without that information I cannot tell you directly what the best method is for you.
However just to be clear if you are not affected by penalty don't waste your time with no follow links they will not harm your site and concentrate on earning links rather than getting rid of no follow links. Of course unless as was said they are erroneous to your business or harming you in any other manner.

The TLD you use can be worth money as far as SEO I would take .com homebuilder.com over a homebuilder.construction every day.
the power to point a .com .net .org at the country of your choice is a big SEO plus
if you can get the .com it is still #1 in the US at least.

I agree with Jimmy on what he said about .net & .org
remember there are many powerful .net's .org's out there for instance SEOmoz.org was the old URL for Moz.com sum of the best marketing companies in the world like distilled.net uses .net
it really comes down to the website itself being better but why would think about is how many phones have .com built-in to the handset. If you are giving someone your URL and you tell them the name they are going to assume most likely that it is .com and less you had to constantly correct them which would not help in the long run because one day you and be there to remind them.
however if you cannot get the .com for your brand I would strongly recommend either looking for a new name depending on how attached or powerful name is or using a.net/.org
Remember if you are going to go up against a existing website with a .com you have the possibility of serious competition in order to rank for your own name. You should always audit the company containing the domain with .com you wish you use the exact same domain name except for the TLD watch out for trademarks as well.
My best advice is taken a look at all the places where you can purchase a domain if you cannot find the one that you want. You can most likely find it on places like https://flippa.com/ , http://www.namejet.com/ & https://www.sedo.com/us/home/getting-started/ to name a very few.
Definitely do a back link check and run them through http://www.removeem.com/ just to be certain that they have not been hit by a penalty. Which unfortunately if the domain is not new would be passed on to you. Some more information.
