I'm sure this has been asked before, but I was looking at all of Google's results for my site and I found dozens of results for directories such as:

      Index of /scouting/blog/wp-includes/js/swfupload/plugins

Obviously I don't want those indexed. How do I prevent Google from indexing those?

Also, it only seems to be doing it with Wordpress, not any of the directories on my main site. (We have a wordpress blog, which is only a portion of the site)

        Thanks for expanding on that!

        a) There are no pages in these folders; they're just directories full of Wordpress config stuff

        b) I already have Yoast and have tag pages noindexed. All the directories I'm referring to are similar to the path I showed above.

        c) If I request removal of specific folders, will it also remove all the files within the folder?\

        Thanks!

To elaborate a little on what he said

          a) yes block the folders with content you don't want indexed in robots.txt - but that is not enough you need to add the noindex to the pages as well for an extra measure.

          b) get the YOAST seo plugin for wordpress installed on your site and configure it to follow, noindex these page. look at other sections you don't want indexed too like tag pages. This plugin is easy to use and will help suggest default settings.

          c) yes you can go into WMT to request removal of specific folders and urls and Google will quickly get them out of the index for you instead of waiting for them to age away.  Your robots.txt should be in place before doing this to make sure it's permanent.

            Here are your options:

            1. Robots.txt - http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=93708 - easy option.
            2. Noindex tags - http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/google-noindex-behavior/
            3. Removal request - https://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=59819

Should I "no-index" two exact pages on Google results?

noindex google search engine results seo expert

Hello everyone, I recently started a new wordpress website and created a static homepage. I noticed that on Google search results, there are two different URLs landing on same content page. I've attached an image to explain what I saw. Should I "no-index" the page url? Google url.JPG In this picture, the first result is the homepage and I try to rank for that page. The last result is landing on same content with different URL. So, should I no-index last result as shown in image?

              Escort directory page indexing issues

seo page treatment page rank google rankings

              Re; escortdirectory-uk.com, escortdirectory-usa.com, escortdirectory-oz.com.au,
Hi, We are an escort directory with 10 years history. We have multiple locations within the following countries, UK, USA, AUS. Although many of our locations (towns and cities) index on page one of Google, just as many do not. Can anyone give us a clue as to why this may be?

Do URLs with canonical tags get indexed by Google?

Hi, we re-branded and launched a new website in February 2016. In June we saw a steep drop in the number of URLs indexed, and there have continued to be smaller dips since. We started an account with Moz and found several thousand high priority crawl errors for duplicate pages and have since fixed those with canonical tags. However, we are still seeing the number of URLs indexed drop. Do URLs with canonical tags get indexed by Google? I can't seem to find a definitive answer on this. A good portion of our URLs have canonical tags because they are just events with different dates, but otherwise the content of the page is the same.

Does Google index internal anchors as separate pages?

Hi, Back in September, I added a function that sets an anchor on each subheading (h[2-6]) and creates a Table of content that links to each of those anchors. These anchors did show up in the SERPs as JumpTo Links. Fine. Back then I also changed the canonicals to a slightly different structur and meanwhile there was some massive increase in the number of indexed pages - WAY over the top - which has since been fixed by removing (410) a complete section of the site. However ... there are still ~34.000 pages indexed to what really are more like 4.000 plus (all properly canonicalised). Naturally I am wondering, what google thinks it is indexing. The number is just way of and quite inexplainable. So I was wondering: Does Google save JumpTo links as unique pages? Also, does anybody know any method of actually getting all the pages in the google index? (Not actually existing sites via Screaming Frog etc, but actual pages in the index - all methods I found sadly do not work.) Finally: Does somebody have any other explanation for the incongruency in indexed vs. actual pages? Thanks for your replies! Nico

Meta Titles and Meta Descriptions are not Indexing in Google

Hello Every one, I have a Wordpress website in which i installed All in SEO plugin and wrote meta titles and descriptions for each and every page and posts and submitted website to index. But after Google crawl the Meta Titles and Descriptions shown by Google are something different that are not found in Content. Even i verified the Cached version of the website and gone through Source code that crawled at that moment. the meta title which i have written is present there. Apart from this, the same URL's are displaying perfect meta titles and descriptions which i wrote in Yahoo and Bing Search Engines. Can anyone explain me how to resolve this issue. Website URL: thenewyou (dot) in Regards,

Staging site and "live" site have both been indexed by Google

While creating a site we forgot to password protect the staging site while it was being built.  Now that the site has been moved to the new domain, it has come to my attention that both the staging site (site.staging.com) and the "live" site (site.com) are both being indexed.  What is the best way to solve this problem?  I was thinking about adding a 301 redirect from the staging site to the live site via HTACCESS. Any recommendations?

              Pages removed from Google index?

Hi All, I had around 2,300 pages in the google index until a week ago. The index removed a load and left me with 152 submitted, 152 indexed? I have just re-submitted my sitemap and will wait to see what happens. Any idea why it has done this? I have seen a drop in my rankings since. Thanks

Is Google caching date same as crawling/indexing date?

If a site is cached on say 9 oct 2012 doesn't that also mean that Google crawled it on same date ? And indexed it on same date?
