4XX (Client Error) on Wordpress Wesbite

I've just taken over the management of a website and am getting 4x 4XX (client Error) issues. Example: http://inter-italia.com/en/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword Can anyone give any guidance as how to fix this wordpress? I also see a lot of 'temporary redirects' due to multilingual plugin - is there anything I can do to fix this?

Yep I agree with Dan, unless you really want people to be able to find your lost password page through the search results i'd disallow it as well - actually there is a bunch of stuff you can do to further secure your wp-admin folder should you so choose : http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/11-vital-tips-and-hacks-to-protect-your-wordpress-admin-area/

Hey There I answered similar questions here; http://a-moz.groupbuyseo.org/community/q/wordpress-redirect-login-401s http://a-moz.groupbuyseo.org/community/q/wordpress-4xx-errors-from-comment-re-direct But essentially Stuart has the right idea too. In the drop down it's linking to somewhere where users can go if they forgot their password. If you don't want this crawled (which I recommend) by Moz, Google, Bing etc add this to your robots.txt file; Disallow: /wp-login.php?action=lostpassword So that goes under what's in there now.

Ah ok - do you mean that it's showing up in your report of links in Open Site Explorer? If that is the case it is probably because it is linked to from a few pages on your site, including http://inter-italia.com/en/ (under the account drop down it's linked to as 'Forgot Password?') It looks like this might be an issue with your Worpress theme as it should really be linking to http://inter-italia.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword but rather than http://inter-italia.com/en/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword Best, Stuart

Thanks Stuart. That is the admin login page but I'm not sure about the link they mention Example: http://inter-italia.com/en/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword It just shows up as a 404 error - can't see that the page actually exists? Not sure where Moz pulls this info from and if its worth being concerned about.

Hey Stacey, In Wordpress the admin area is normally under the wp-admin folder (unless it's been changed), not sure if it's for the same site but the URL http://inter-italia.com/wp-admin/ seems to go to a WP admin page. Hope that helps! Stuart

		Do Wordpress sites outrank SquareSpace?
I was a big fan of Wordpress. I used it for 10 years. However, because I run a very small business, the constant upkeep needed on WP in the end started to frustrate me in the end, so I moved to SquareSpace. However, I am beginning to question my decision, as one of my sites is struggling really badly, and I mean badly. The other sites are okay. So I started asking around, and most people are saying there shouldn't be a difference. A few people have said their Wordpress sites always outranks their SquareSpace sites. Then I read what Rand Fishkin said in the below Twitter thread, now I am even more confused. I am very reluctant to move to Wordpress, its just so much hassle. But at the same time, if a site doesn't get much traffic then it's useless. https://twitter.com/drew_pickard/status/991659074134556673 https://twitter.com/randfish/status/991974456477278209 Please let me know your thoughts and experience. WordPress Category page title h1 or h2
Hi friends, I know this is a minor technical change, but we are in an extremely competitive market and I don't want to have any points against us. On our WordPress Category pages i.e. http://www.domain.com/category/tegory-title%/ I looked at the code behind the the Title of the category page, which is "Browsing: %Category Title%" The code is an h2. I look at the posts in the category archive below, and those are also h2's. The theme preview is here and you can click on Entertainment - Reviews to see exactly what I'm referring to - http://themeforest.net/item/smartmag-responsive-retina-wordpress-magazine/full_screen_preview/6652608 I changed the code for the "Browsing: %Category Title%" to h1, which I believe is more consistent and standard formatting. 1. Is this a correct technical on-page optimization? 2. Would it be beneficial to remove "Browsing"? Web Design | | JustinMurray0

Best Practice issue: Modx vs Wordpress
Lately I've been working a lot with Modx to create a new site for our own firm as well for other projects. But so far I haven't seen the advantages for SEO purposes other then the fact that with ModX you can manage almost everything yourself including snippets etc without to much effort. Wordpress is a known factor for blogging and since the last 2 years or so for websites. My question is: Which platform is better suited for SEO purposes? Which should I invest my time in? ModX or Wordpress? Hope to hear your thought on the matter Web Design | | JarnoNijzing0

		Redirects (301/302) versus errors (404)
I am not able to convincingly decide between using redirects versus using 404 errors. People are giving varied opinions. Here are my cases 1. Coding errors - we put out a bad link a. Some people are saying redirect to home page; the user at least has something to do PLUS more importantly it does NOT hurt your SEO ranking. b. Counter - the page ain't there. Return 404 2. Product removed - link1 to product 1 was out there. We removed product1; so link1 is also gone. It is either lying in people's bookmarks, OR because of coding errors we left it hanging out at some places on our site. Web Design | | proptiger0

Ecommerce Style Wordpress But No Shopping Cart.
Wondering if anyone knows if you can purchase an ecommece style wordpress theme, but not use the shopping cart portion or display pricing. We would like to display our website how an ecommerce is set up, but at this time, we do not sell anything online. We are considering in the near future to sell half of our products. And this would not be very large. Or can ecommerce be added to any wordpress theme. ? Web Design | | hfranz0
