On Site Question: Duplicate H2...

Hi All A few on-site audit tools pull information on duplicate H2 tags on pages. This implies it's a bad thing and should be fixed - is that the case? On one of my sites the tag-line is in H2 in the header, so appears on every page... Just wondering if this is something worth fixing. Thanks

I have to say, GTAMP, I agree with all the above advice. As Jared notes, this isn't something that's going to wreck your traffic on its own. However, David is spot-on that it's certainly worth fixing if the cost isn't too high.

In cases like this I always say: if it cost's nothing to remove it, then remove it! you want see a boost, but atleast you have a better base for the future, since we just dont know how things will end up

Hi GTAMP, I would definitely remove the h2 tag from your site-wide header tagline. Heading tags should be used to demonstrate a hierarchy to the content on a page and using a h2 in the site's tagline in the header is not doing this. I wouldn't expect to see any noticeable gains from only removing the h2 tag, but it's one of those things where it all adds up in the end. Cheers, David

Hi, I wouldn't worry too much about this. It's not ideal to have so many duplicates (especially if they're on the same page), which is probably why this is getting tripped in the audit tools, but it's not something I would lose sleep about. At the end of the day, headings are for structuring content for the user, so if it makes sense, do it. It's mostly about multiple headers on the same page, but here's Matt Cutts describing what's good/bad about this practice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIn5qJKU8VM Hope that helps!

		Duplicate content in sidebar
Hi guys. So I have a few sentences (about 50 words) of duplicate content across all pages of my website (this is a repeatable text in sidebar). Each page of my website contains about 1300 words (unique content) in total, and 50 words of duplicate content in sidebar. Does having a duplicate content of this length in sidebar affect the rankings of my website in any way? Thank you so much for your replies. On-Page Optimization | | AslanBarselinov1

Word Count - Content site vs ecommerce site
Hi there, what are your thoughts on word count for a content site vs. an ecommerce site. A lot of content sites have no problem pushing out 500+ words per page, which for me is a decent amount to help you get traction. However on ecommerce sites, a lot of the time the product description only needs to be sub-100 words and the total word count on the page comes in at under 300 words, a lot of that could be considered duplicate. So what are your views? Do ecommerce sites still need to have a high word count on the product description page to rank better? On-Page Optimization | | Bee1590

		HTML Site SEO (NO CMS)
I have got a client site, which is dated (2007) and has not been shifted to any recognised CMS yet. It is HTML based. Is it possible to SEO on such a site? Is it even worth it? If it is possible to do SEO on this, any suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thank you. On-Page Optimization | | ArthurRadtke3

Duplicate Content from on Competitor's site?
I've recently discovered large blocks of content on a competitors site that has been copy and pasted from a client's site. From what I know, this will only hurt the competitor and not my client since my guy was the original. Is this true? Is there any risk to my client? Should we take action? Plagiarism or duplicate checker tool?
Do you know a plagiarism or duplicate checker tool where I can receive an email alert if someone copies my content? I know there's a tool like this (similar to http://www.tynt.com/ though people can still remove the link from the original source) but I forgot the name or site. It's like a source code that you must insert in each of your webpage. Thanks in advanced! On-Page Optimization | | esiow20131

		Percentage of duplicate content allowable
Can you have ANY duplicate content on a page or will the page get penalized by Google? For example if you used a paragraph of Wikipedia content for a definition/description of a medical term, but wrapped it in unique content is that OK or will that land you in the Google / Panda doghouse? If some level of duplicate content is allowable, is there a general rule of thumb ratio unique-to-duplicate content? thanks! On-Page Optimization | | sportstvjobs0

		Sister Sites or Joint Family?
A large News Media Group has a Tv Channel, print newspaper, radio channel (for music primarly) and an online website that includes the newspaper content and other original content in different media. My question is, is it better to have independant websites for these different mediums or have all the content on one big website. Currently the newspaper and blog are online as one whereas the radio channel has its own website and the television has its own. So should we maintain sister sites and cross link to each other or have one big happy family under one house? Best, Rishad.
