My industry is commercial real estate in New York City. Our site has 300 real estate listings. The format we have been using for Title Tags are below.

This probably disastrous from an SEO perspective. Using number is a total waste space. A few questions:
-Should we set listing not no index if they are not content rich?
-If we do choose to index them, should we avoid titles listing Square Footage and dollar amounts?
-Since local SEO is critical, should the titles always list New York, NY or Manhattan, NY?
-I have red that titles should contain some form of branding. But our company name is Metro Manhattan Office Space. That would take up way too much space. Even "Metro Manhattan" is long. DO we need to use the title tag for branding or can we just focus on a brief description of page content incorporating one important phrase?

          Our site is: w w w . m e t r o - m a n h a t t a n . c o m

              • PLP > Product Listing Pages
              • Search Console > Is the name for the old Webmaster Tools if you don't have it is a good idea to install it on your website

How do I decide where to create the internal links between the pages?
First, you need to determinate your site structure to decide how to make your internal links

              Google Search Console

                Hi Roman:

                Sorry but 2 more questions:

Not sure what you mean by the below:
"I strongly suggest to optimize your PLP pages they are like the categories in your website, so they are very close to your home page and should be at the top of your content structure."

                Also, regarding:

                Lack of “Speaking” URLs

Is it more acceptable to rewrite the URLs of listing pages with very little page authority. I assume the redirect will make no difference if a listing has a page authority of 1-5.

If the new listing page is improves, the authority should improve.

We have about 350 pages. Do you think a good approach might be to start off trying to improve 30-40 pages to see if we are on the right track?

                Thanks,
                Alan

                  Hi Roman:

Thanks for this most detailed, terrific response!!

                  A few questions:

                  1. What does "PLP" stand for? (I'm an amateur, sorry)
                  2. What is search console?
                  3. How do I decided where to create the internal links between the pages?

                  REGARDING:
                  Optimal format
Primary Keyword - Secondary Keyword | Brand Name 8-foot Green Widgets - Widgets & Tools | Widget World The above is a good example. Your suggestion to remove brand name is interesting. It provides a lot more space (characters). Good idea as long as removing brand from title is not detrimental.

But using the above "widgets" nexample what would we substitute "Brand Name" with?

What happens of some of the keywords get redundant? Like the neighborhood may be an important keyword
New York Office Space Rental / Chelsea Loft Space/ XXXXXX

We might have about 75 loft spaces, wouldn't this redundancy be bad?

                  Also, many, many searches use:
                  Manhattan office space
                  NYC Office space
                  New York City office space

And many permutations. The competition for these terms in Manhattan in insane!!! Google Adwords has many of these terms listed for $35+.

Do you think it best to have geographic keywords in schemas, title tags, descriptions or URLs?

Many of our URLS are poorly written. Do you think it best to re-write them or will the redirect reduce ranking?

                  Thanks again,
                  Alan

1 - Should we set listing not no index if they are not content rich?

I strongly suggest to optimize your PLP pages they are like the categories in your website, so they are very close to your home page and should be at the top of your content structure.

So what you can do it about

                    • Optimize the titles and description tag
                    • Add schemas to those PLP
                    • Then markup those pages using Search Console
                    • Create some internal links to those pages

This are some tips from the SEO Learning Center
                    https://a-moz.groupbuyseo.org/learn/seo/title-tag

                    Optimal format
Primary Keyword - Secondary Keyword | Brand Name
8-foot Green Widgets - Widgets & Tools | Widget World

There are a few basic strategies that realtor can utilize to increase PLP SEO scores, site visibility, and conversions.

                    1. Increase the number of relevant keywords included on PLP pages by adding plain text descriptions and related keywords.
                    2. Embed keywords within the URLs of PLP pages
                    3. Raise SEO authority by decreasing bounce rate

7 Critical SEO Errors you should avoid

                    1. Lack of Properties Description
                    2. Lack of Properties Reviews
                    3. Not Optimizing Properties Pages Based on The Search Demand
                    4. Non-Unique Titles
                    5. Lack of “Speaking” URLs
                    6. A Lot of Duplicate Content

The Golden Rule of SEO – Make Usability a Priority
As you know, Google is a search engine that is very worried about its users and their experience. First of all, you should make your online store convenient and useful for customers in order to achieve its respect. What is good and unique to your clients – it’s good for Google.

The more time people spend on your site, and less they click back to the search results page is a great indication that Google is sending them to the right place.

Finally, people who like your website and what it has to offer are much more likely to link to it – and as we said before, links are what drive you to top the search results page!

2 - If we do choose to index them, should we avoid titles listing Square Footage and dollar amounts?

I don't have experience in Real Estate and don't live in NY.
But the first thing that comes to my mind is, did you study your main competitors?
Which are your top 10 competitors? most important
                    What are they doing?

Base on my experience and looking some of your competitors the best solution is to use Price Ranges

3 - Since local SEO is critical, should the titles always list New York, NY or Manhattan, NY?

There is no absolute answer to your question, because all depends on how your users make their research
So you need to make your own research, Moz and Ahrefs have the best keywords management tools in my opinion
with Moz Pro, you can create some keyword list and see the metrics

Go to your Moz account > Keyword Explorer > Create or upload new list

these are the question that you need to answer

                    Which keywords use your audience/users?
What is the volume of searches using New York, NY?
What is the volume of searches using Manhattan, NY?
What is difficulty level for those keywords?

When you answer those question you will have the answer that you are looking for

4 - Talking about your branding
In my opinion, you need to forget your brand and focus on your target audience
Google does not need your brand keyword in title to know who or your company are

you can use Shemas on your site with all your brand information

Rel canonical tag from shopify page to wordpress site page

                      shopify wordpress canonical

We have pages on our shopify site example - https://shop.example.com/collections/cast-aluminum-plaques/products/cast-aluminum-address-plaque That we want to put a rel canonical tag on to direct to our wordpress site page - https://www.example.com/aluminum-plaques/ We have links form the wordpress page to the shop page, and over time ahve found that google has ranked the shop pages over the wp pages, which we do not want. So we want to put rel canonical tags on the shop pages to say the wp page is the authority. I hope that makes sense, and I would appreciate your feeback and best solution. Thanks! Is that possible?

Home Page Title - Google Overriding my Title Tag

                      title tags

Hi, We have noticed our home page title tag has now been replaced by our brand name (by Google I'm assuming). We have also noted that the page is dropping off SERPS for our main keywords, I suspect they are related but ofc I cant be sure. I know the recent Google update has impacted titles but I wasn't sure if it would apply here. Has anyone any advice on this and/or having the same issue? We normally rank well for grass seed (UK search) https://thegrasspeople.com/ I also noticed some strange mark up in our source code which seems to have been left behind by Sketch - we are getting this removed. <title>Combined Shape</title> <desc>Created with Sketch.</desc> Chris

Hi everyone I am hoping a few of you can share your opinions. I have been having conversations (okay, healthy debates) about how to write/structure meta title tag and how to compliment them with the H1, page title, menu name. To help explain the thought processes I will use a pretend keyword. How about "screwdriver". Case: (I made this up) we are redesigning a website for a construction tools manufacturing company (pretend name: ABC Tools) targeting OEMs who are interested in purchasing large quantities of tools. The product categories (to become main menu items) are Screwdrivers, Nails, Drills, and Hammers. (bear with me .... this is just an example I am making up on the fly) K. Circling back to screwdrivers - let's say we have one landing page (a primary category page and in the main menu) listing products and great details about screwdrivers. Focus keywords are screwdriver manufacturer, screwdriver supplier, construction screwdrivers Below are questions being debated. If you are willing ... how would you address these questions? And, can you explain WHY? QUESTION ONE: How would you structure the meta title tag (feel free to write one of your own) Screwdriver Manufacturer - Construction Screwdriver | ABC Tools ABC Tools - US-based Screwdriver Manufacturer Supplier Near You High-Quality Screwdrivers for Construction with ABC Tools QUESTION TWO: how would you write the H1 on the page? Would it match the meta tag? OR, would you write something different using the primary keyword? QUESTION THREE Remembering this is not a blog post ... it is a primary landing page linked to the main navigation. What would the menu title be? (remember the product categories above are how the main menu items are bucketed) Screwdrivers Screwdriver Manufacturer Typically in WordPress, the H1 and the menu title is auto-populated using the page title (not the title tag)... So, if we use Screwdrivers as the page title but we want the H1 to match the meta title tag, would we manually change the H1? Or, have the page title and title tag match, but manually change the menu item?

Changing title tags - any potential issues?

Hello all, I am planning to change the title tags throughout a site and am vaguely aware (perhaps wrongly!) that changing title tags across a site is a risk factor - can be a spam flag if changes (to a specific title tag) are implemented too regularly, for example. Would you change title tags across a site in one go, or implement changes gradually - to avoid any risk of upsetting Google. Do you have any insights/tips on the implementation of title tag changes?

How to add Canonical Tags on Opencart Products

Does anyone know how to add canonical tags to product pages in Opencart? Is this possible to do in htaccess? If so, how specifically should it be written in? Please do not post any links to other pages which reference generic canonical information as I've read them all and none help. I'm looking for an Opencart specific answer, or a way to do it in htaccess.

Javascript to fetch page title for every webpage, is it good?

We have a zend framework that is complex to program if you ask me, and since we have 20k+ pages that we need to get proper titles to and meta descriptions, i need to ask if we use Javascript to handle page titles (basically the previously programming team had NOT set page titles at all) and i need to get proper page titles from a h1 tag within the page. current course of action which we can easily implement is fetch page title from that h1 tag being used throughout all pages with the help of javascript, But this does makes it difficult for engines to actually read what's the page title? since its being fetched with javascript code that we have put in, though i had doubts, is anyone one of you have simiilar situation before? if yes i need some help! Update: I tried the JavaScript way and here is what it looks like http://islamicencyclopedia.org/public/index/hadith/id/1/book_id/106  i know the fact that google won't read JavaScript like the way we have done with the website, But i need help on "How we can work around this issue"  Knowing we don't have other options.

                      Rel=canonical tag on original page?

                      Afternoon All,
We are using Concrete5 as our CMS system, we are due to change but for the moment we have to play with what we have got. Part of the C5 system allows us to attribute our main page into other categories, via a page alaiser add-on. But what it also does is create several url paths and duplicate pages depending on how many times we take the original page and reference it in other categories. We have tried C5 canonical/SEO add-on's but they all seem to fall short. We have tried to address this issue in the most efficient way possible by using the rel=canonical tag. The only issue is the limitations of our cms system. We add the canonical tag to the original page header and this will automatically place this tag on all the duplicate pages and in turn fix the problem of duplicate content. The only problem is the canonical tag is on the original page as well, but it is referencing itself, effectively creating a tagging circle. Does anyone foresee a problem with the canonical tag being on the original page but in turn referencing itself? What we have done is try to simplify our duplicate content issues. We have over 2500 duplicate page issues because of this aliasing add-on and want to automate the canonical tag addition, rather than go to each individual page and manually add this tag, so the original reference page can remain the original. We have implemented this tag on one page at the moment with 9 duplicate pages/url's and are monitoring, but was curious if people had experienced this before or had any thoughts?

Should I Allow Blog Tag Pages to be Indexed?

I have a wordpress blog with settings currently set so that Google does not index tag pages. Is this a best practice that avoids duplicate content or am I hurting the site by taking eligible pages out of the index?
