In Google search console all of sudden a lot of backlinks have disappear at "Link To Your Site"
-
Hi after update in Google search console yesterday a lot of backlinks in "Link To Your Site" have disappear, before we had 43x domains now we have 12x domains linking to the site. I have checked the sites where we had link do-follow before and they are OK.
Can you please tell me the reason what has gone wrong. And also please guide me in fixing the issue ,
Hope to hear from you soon..!

Did you ever resolve this issue If so what happened, and when did they return? I've read some people say that they this happened for 3-4 weeks then returned to normal.
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Helen,
Other responders here are right, IMO - Search Console's "Links to Your Site" report has always been an unreliable view of actual inbound links.
We've seen strange behavior here, and often times a close inspection of the "Who links the most" URLs turns up no actual links. Likewise, we often find links via Moz Link Explorer, ahrefs, Majestic, etc that Google is not reporting.
In short, I wouldn't worry much about what Google is reporting here - we have not found a good use for this report as a measurement of actual links at Distilled and tend to ignore it for inaccuracy.
Best,
Mike -
Hi Helen
I have always looked on the backlinks in webmaster tools as just a guide. It only shows a sample of backlinks to your site and that sample can vary:

Hi
and thx for feedback
I have checked SEMrush, Moz, Ahref and all of them are spot on regarding our backlinks. Also before Google Webmaster Tools did show our backlinks and all the sudden if was away and only show 12x of them. Its important for us the link juice from all domains. also we have not gone from http to https. We have always had https and the backlinks are also to our right domains with www.
Should I think about this or maybe something wrong with Google Webmaster Tools?
thx

Hi Helen
I have checked your backlinks and they are growing over time, not falling - see the attachment from SEMrush.
Have you recently changed from http to https? if so make sure that both domains are in search console as you may be tracking an old one.
Whatever SEM is much more reliable.
Take a look at the screenshot - it shows 1700+ backlinks from 25 referring domains!
I hope that helps

Hi heleneolsen,
I'm not aware of a problem like the one you describe, but I personally never trusted much backlinks shown in Google Webmaster Tools, I preferr tools like:
Moz's link explorer > https://moz.groupbuyseo.org/pro/link-explorer/home
Ahrefs > https://ahrefs.com/
I recommend you to try them.
Greetings!

Backlinks on Moz not on Google Search Console
Moz is showing thousands of backlinks to my site that are not showing up on Google Search Console - which is good because those links were created by some spammer in Pakistan somewhere. I haven't yet submitted a disavow report to Google of well over 10K links because the list keeps growing every day with new backlinks that have been rerouted to a 404 page. I have asked Google to clarify and they put my question on their forum for an answer, which I'm still waiting for - so I thought I'd try my luck here. My question... If Moz does not match Google Search Console, and backlinks are important to results, how valid is the ranking that Moz creates to let me know how I'm doing in this competition and if I'm improving or not. If the goal is to get Google to pay attention and I use Moz to help me figure out how to do this, how can I do that if the backlink information isn't the same - by literally over 10 000 backlinks created by some spammer doing odd things... They've included the url from their deleted profile on my site with 100s of other urls, including Moz.com and are posting them everywhere with their preferred anchor text. Moz ranking considers the thousands of spam backlinks I can't get rid of and Google ignores them or disavows them. So isn't the rankings, data, and graphs apples and bananas? How can I know what my site's strength really is and if I'm improving or not if the data doesn't match? Complete SEO Novice Shannon Peel

Why Google Search Console Data is different from Moz Data for my website
Hi All I am running a website, I have been using Moz since Feb 2021. Kindly go through these pics My question is why Moz is showing 2K plus backlinks while Google search console is showing just 1253 backlinks. Why fewer links in the google search console is less? How can I increase Google search console backlinks? Also, Moz is showing 90+ DA backlinks but those websites are not showing by the Google search console. What should I do to let google consider them? m0JGjBQ.jpg Cmp8ei3.png

Are backlinks in the form of Footer or Sitewide links safe?
Hi There! Some of our competitors are using sitewide links in the header, footer or sidebar…is it ok to use these type of backlinks to increase overall backlinks. The site-wide links increase backlinks dramatically. Thanks Malik Zakaria

Back link from site with DA of 72 to a website domain. Clicking on the link redirects to our website not the attended one.
Hi,
Link Building | | JIMBO16
I've ran a back link check and discovered a good back link to a site which then gets redirected back to my company's website. I have a feeling that an old SEO agency has purchased a small website which has a decent link back from a relevant organisation with a high Domain authority and then redirects the domain to our website to get the link juice. What are your thought on this? Is this really bad practise and possibly damaging? Thanks, Jim0 -
Different number of backlinks (Search console - Majestic)
Hi there, I saw a notable difference between the number of backlinks from ref domains to my website in search console and majestic. I basically have two questions: why such a difference? And which tool gives me the most accurate number between these two? Thank you!

Asking a site to remove a "nofollow" on a link to our client
Hello, We created a good infographic for a client of ours and a large tech site (DA 86) picked up and ran a story on it. We didn't contact this company asking them to feature it, they have just picked it up through other shares around the Web. I understand that, at the end of the day, it's their prerogative whether to "nofollow" their links or not, but surely they should be giving our client some credit as they have clearly deemed the graphic newsworthy and felt that it would appeal to their readership. I've emailed said tech site, but to no avail. Does anyone have any advice on this? Or is it just a case of they can do what the heck they want? I know that our client will still benefit from the additional referral traffic, but a follow link would have been nicer! Cheers, Lewis

Press Release Sites for Backlinks
OK, I read a previous thread about whether people found press release sites useful (specifically I am considering a reputable pay for release service). I understand the knock on press releases in this digital age (namely that no one reads them and arguably never did . . . ), but I was interested in moving the discussion in a different direction . . . Do press releases services really help a sites performance based on increased backlinking? Is there a SEO benefit to PR services? My company is a local print company. I've done quite a bit of research on my local competitors, and specifically for a couple products we would like to dominate. The good news is that it looks like the hurdle would not be terribly high to really take over the web presence with a well planned and executed website/SEO campaign. My inclination is that for a relatively small company like mine (dealing with relatively small competitors) it WOULD benefit me to pay for the sheer number of backlinks a PR program would generate. The monthly cost is frankly about the same as the cost of this site, which OF COURSE I get value from (hey moderator, how about a couple extra MOZ points for that one!) Specifically, I am looking at this for myself, but feel free to expand the question to the broader topic.
