          Hello everyone !

          I need help setting up a robot.txt.

I'm trying to block all pdf files in particular directories so I'm using this command. In the example below the line is blocking all .gif in the entire site.

Block files of a specific file type (for example, .gif) | Disallow: /*.gif$

          2 questions :

          • Can I use this command to specify one particular directory in which I want to block pdf files ? Will this line be recognized by googlebots ?

          Disallow: /fileadmin/xxxxxxx/xxx/xxxxxxx/*.pdf$

          • Then I realized that I would have to write as many lines as many directories there are in which I want to block pdf files.

Let's say I want to block pdf files in all these 3 directories

          /fileadmin/directory1

          /fileadmin/directory1/sub1

          /fileadmin/directory1/sub1/pdf

Is there a pattern-matching rule I could use to blocks access to pdf files in all subdirectories instead of writing 3x the above line for each subdirectory ? For exemple :

          Disallow: /fileadmin/directory1*/

Many thanks in advance for any insight you may have.

              Use this code -
              Disallow: /*.f$
If you want to block only one folder then use this -
              Disallow: /folder1/
              .*f$
This rule will help to block both files only .pdf and .gif

                Robots.txt allows wp-admin/admin-ajax.php

                Hello, Mozzers!
I noticed something peculiar in the robots.txt used by one of my clients: Allow: /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php What would be the purpose of allowing a search engine to crawl this file?
Is it OK? Should I do something about it?
Everything else on /wp-admin/ is disallowed.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I have two robots.txt pages for www and non-www version. Will that be a problem?

There are two robots.txt pages. One for www version and another for non-www version though I have moved to the non-www version.

                Disallow wildcard match in Robots.txt

This is in my robots.txt file, does anyone know what this is supposed to accomplish, it doesn't appear to be blocking URLs with question marks Disallow: /?crawler=1
                Disallow: /?mobile=1 Thank you

How do I complete a reverse DNS check when completing log file analysis?

I'm doing some log file analysis and need to run a reverse DNS check to ensure that I'm analysing logs from Google and not any imposters. Is there a command I can use in terminal to do this? If not, whats the best way to verify Googlebot? Thanks

Trying to find all internal links to a specific page (without index)

Hi guys -- Still waiting on Moz to index a page of mine. We launched a new site over two months ago. In the meantime, I really just need a list of internal links to a specific page because I want to change its URL. Does anybody know how to find that list (of internal links to 1 of my pages) without the Moz index? I appreciate the help!

Should I block Map pages with robots.txt?

Hello, I have a website that was started in 1999. On the website I have map pages for each of the offices listed on my site, for which there are about 120. Each of the 120 maps is in a whole separate html page. There is no content in the page other than the map. I know all of the offices love having the map pages so I don't want to remove the pages. So, my question is would these pages with no real content be hurting the rankings of the other pages on our site? Therefore, should I block the pages with my robots.txt? Would I also have to remove these pages (in webmaster tools?) from Google for blocking by robots.txt to really work? I appreciate your feedback, thanks!

Should I block robots from URLs containing query strings?

I'm about to block off all URLs that have a query string using robots.txt. They're mostly URLs with coremetrics tags and other referrer info. I figured that search engines don't need to see these as they're always better off with the original URL. Might there be any downside to this that I need to consider? Appreciate your help / experiences on this one. Thanks Jenni

Can I Disallow Faceted Nav URLs - Robots.txt

I have been disallowing /*? So I know that works without affecting crawling. I am wondering if I can disallow the faceted nav urls. So disallow: /category.html/? /category2.html/? /category3.html/*? To prevent the price faceted url from being cached: /category.html?price=1%2C1000
                and
                /category.html?price=1%2C1000&product_material=88 Thanks!
