Changing FaceBook Username / url - do you retain your likes/fans

just a quickie, anyone know off hand when you change your FB username/url do you retain or lose the likes/fans ?

Hi Dan,
If you go through Facebook for your name change, you do not lose any of your fans. They are all transferred seamlessly. Yes, your vanity URL pointing to your page will change, but with Moz's experience, Facebook did a redirect from our old vanity URL (seomoz) to our new one (Moz), so you'll still retain any links built to your Facebook page and the resulting traffic.

Thanks Bex but im referring to username/url not page name of a page with a few thousand fans, so trying to find out if safe to change username/url without losing fans/likes

If you have less than 200 fans i think you can change the username of the page (only ones) and you will retain the fans that you have. However, if you have more than 200 fans then you can ask some of your loyal ones to "suggest an edit". If they know what you want to change your page name to (if its something more appropriate) then get them to fill this in. If you get about 15 i think it is suggests in about 2 days, Facebook should ask you if you want to change your name.
I have never tried this myself, however, i have heard of other who have said its worked. All "likers" kept. Remember If anyone is searching for you with your old name they won't find you once you have changed it as Facebook doesn't redirect. Hope this helps.

Facebook adds a trailing slash to urls?
Hey Guys, we are facing a problem in our www.batuta.com with Facebook shares. Seems like because we choose to set our preferred canonical version urls to end with a trailing slash ( / ), like this one e.g.: www.batuta.com/الوجهات/إسبانيا/ Facebook adds automatically another ( / ) when trying to read the url on first share before its ever indexed in FB. Which makes Facebook think its a bad request! cause then the URL has two // at the end of it. hope this was clear. anyway, so first question: did anybody face this issue before? any solutions? Second, and might be more important: I might be forced to face the option of changing the canonical tags to be a url without a ( / ) if I will have to do this I will enforce a redirect on every url request with an ending trailing slash ( / ) to be redirected to the new canonical version without. will this be enough? how big am I supposed to suffer here? am I facing a long time with double indexed urls? wonder if anybody faced this problem before! Does a link in facebook count as a backlink?
Q: Does a link in a facebook post count as a backlink? Q: is it a 'do follow' or 'no follow' link? Q: twitter uses short links, so when someone links to me, do i get the points/juice from the backlink?

Videos perform poorly on facebook...why?
I have a facebook page with 42,000 Real fans. Images, screenshots, links, questions, etc all perform well. But videos get 0 interaction. If I get 5 likes that is saying something. Why would facebook not send out my videos to people? Is there a way to increase them? It is very frustrating to post our youtube videos to get no response. My fans are most 13-30 yr old gamers, so videos should be right up their alley.

I have a client whose FB page has a 5 star rating (apparently from 5 reviews) but I have no clue from where they are aggregated? I tried Google-ing for answers with no luck! Any idea? Blog posts copied to Facebook or Linked? Any Duplicate Content Issues?
I wasnt able to find any good answers on this. I have two separate ecommerce websites, one with a top level blog. (www.xyz.com/blog) and different website with a subdomain blog (blog.xyz.com)***note on the subdomain blog, although it links to our website. You cannot directly shop from it. Until i can make some sort of scraper, its what I have to work with. For quite some time now I have been copying the blog posts and re-creating them on facebook as a Note. Using the same anchor text/links on facebook as my blog post. Part of the issue is that I want the facebook pages to have some content and not just links. Both get 2-3 updates per week, 1 of those being a blog re-post. Does anyone know if google or bing considers this duplicate content? Should I simply link directly to the blog everytime, as a best practice? Any insight on this would be great. Thanks!

HI Does anyone know of any negative consequences of changing Facebook username ? For example i take it all your fans are transferred/you dont lose them 🙂 ? Its just a url change (so links on website etc need to be updated) but thats the only thing that changes ? Many Thanks Dan

Hello everybody! I'm in doubt with which one is the best: To have a Twitter profile name with: 1)the company's name.

Will it bring traffic, considering that is a B2B, that works different. The question is: does Google gives relevance to username with keyword in it? If yes, have it a great value, or should I use the company name? Thanks! =]0
