Is it ok to use H1 tags in breadcrumbs?
-
A client has an e-commerce site and she doesn't want a page title on the products page. She has breadcrumbs though. Her website developer suggests putting the H1 on the breadcrumbs.
So: products> Gifts > picture frame with h1 tags round the word "picture frame".
Is this ok to do? Or is it a bad thing for SEO purposes?
Thanks
-
I'd just swap it. Make the breadcrumbs H2 (or just regular paragraph text) and product title H1 on the product pages. Having the same text for H1 & H2 should be fine, just don't keyword stuff.
-
Generally speaking, if that's the only H1 tag that is going to be on the page, then it should be just fine. I would style the text so that it looks appropriate for the page and looks like the rest of the breadcrumb text on the page. An alternative would be to select another location, such as the sidebar somewhere towards the top of the page, and include a heading as an H1.

Thanks Oleg. There is a product title and a description underneath. The product title is an H2 tag. Is it ok to have a H1 and H2 tag saying the same thing i.e. "picture frame"?
On the category pages e.g. "gifts" I can see that it might be ok to have the H1 breadcrumbs becuase there are no other words, but on the product pages there is the opportunity to use the product name as an H1 but at the moment it is an H2 tag and the H1 tag is in the breadcrumbs. Should this be changed or is it ok?
THanks
-
If that is the only place where "Picture frame" appears on the page, then yes.
Usually, ecommerce sites have the product title within the product section (where you can view images, description, add to cart, etc) and that is what should have the H1 tag.

Breadcrumbs on Mobile How important are they for SEO?
Due to Poor unsightly look of breadcrumbs and the space it takes up above the fold we only employ breadcrumbs on our desktop version. Breadcrumbs are hidden from view on mobile version. However as mobile first indexing is now in play what technical SEO impacts will this have? one thing that comes to mind is crawling deeper pages where breadcrumbs made them accessible in less than 3 link clicks? But i am unsure now of the impacts of not having breadcrumbs visible for mobile version of our site.

Canonical homepage link uses trailing slash while default homepage uses no trailing slash, will this be an issue?
Hello, 1st off, let me explain my client in this case uses BigCommerce, and I don't have access to the backend like most other situations. So I have to rely on BG to handle certain issues. I'm curious if there is much of a difference using domain.com/ as the canonical url while BG currently is redirecting our domain to domain.com. I've been using domain.com/ consistently for the last 6 months, and since we switches stores on Friday, this issue has popped up and has me a bit worried that we'll loose somehow via link juice or overall indexing since this could confuse crawlers. Now some say that the domain url is fine using / or not, as per - https://a-moz.groupbuyseo.org/community/q/trailing-slash-and-rel-canonical But I also wanted to see what you all felt about this. What says you?

Title Tag vs. H1 / H2
OK, Title tag, no problem, it's the SEO juice, appears on SERP, etc. Got it. But I'm reading up on H1 and getting conflicting bits of information ... Only use H1 once? H1 is crucial for SERP Use H1s for subheads Google almost never looks past H2 for relevance So say I've got a blog post with three sections ... do I use H1 three times (or does Google think you're playing them ...) Or do I create a "big" H1 subhead and then use H2s? Or just use all H2s because H1s are scary? 🙂 I frequently use subheads, it would seem weird to me to have one a font size bigger than another, but of course I can adjust that in settings ... Thoughts? Lisa

• symbol in title tag
We have a few title tags with a circular dot symbol, which is created by the code "•" Humans see a dot, but googlebot sees • Does this negatively impact our SEO, or is googlebot aware that **• == *** to human eyes

Hiding H1 with background colour
Will the H1 tag be visible to the bot if it is hidden from the human eyes using background color. Will Google penalize my website if I hide the H1 tag using the background color so it is visible to the search engine bot but not visible to the human eye. If I place the H1 tag in the footer (front-end location) for the human eye but at the top of the page in HTML for the bots, will the search bot still consider this as the H1 tag and rank it accordingly Finally will you categorize this under blackhat ( I think it is not too sure)

What tool do you use to check for URLs not indexed?
What is your favorite tool for getting a report of URLs that are not cached/indexed in Google & Bing for an entire site? Basically I want a list of URLs not cached in Google and a seperate list for Bing. Thanks, Mark
