Hey guys ! I have a wordpress website and also yoast seo plugin . I've set up a meta title which is : TV Online | Assistir Filmes| Notícias | Futebol |GogsTV . (I checked on some free tools to see , and they also show up this) but .... google is showing this : GogsTV: TV Online | Assistir Filmes| Notícias | Futebol . Seems they are trying to show my brand name first instead of my main keyword .

I'm not sure why it doesnt indexes as i want ... Does anybody know how can i fix this . Thanks

Google states on their support page:

_If we’ve detected that a particular result has [...] issues with its title, we may try to generate an improved title from anchors, on-page text, or other sources. However, sometimes even pages with well-formulated, concise, descriptive titles will end up with different titles in our search results to better indicate their relevance to the query. _

There’s a simple reason for this: the title tag as specified by a webmaster is limited to being static, fixed regardless of the query. Once we know the user’s query, we can often find alternative text from a page that better explains why that result is relevant. Using this alternative text as a title helps the user, and it also can help your site. Users are scanning for their query terms or other signs of relevance in the results, and a title that is tailored for the query can increase the chances that they will click through.

What to do? Here's the answer:

            • make your title mean something as a sentence or a phrase. List of keywords is not descriptive of what is on the page. Therefore Google will not use that. There are exceptions for e-commerce or product sites but that is the rule.
            • If you want to highlight a certain keyword — simply place that at the start of the said phrase in the title.
            • try to think as an user searching for your page when composing the above mentioned phrase. What do they desire?

For more, please see my previous answer at http://a-moz.groupbuyseo.org/community/q/title-tag-issue-2

              Hi there!

This is a common occurrence for WordPress websites and specifically for home page title tags. Google will often show different variations of titles or completely new titles based on the searchers intent. It makes sense if someone is searching your brand name but it can become frustrating when you want valuable keywords towards the beginning of the title tag instead of your brand name.

Some people argue that this doesn't affect rankings, as in Google is still indexing your proper title tag but is just choosing to display it differently. I personally think the opposite. I've gotten this problem fixed before and have seen better ranking results.

With that said, I would try different variations of your current title to see if Google will accept them. Something like: "TV Online | Assistir Filmes | Notícias | Futebol - GogsTV" or you could work the brand name into the title like "GogsTV Online | Assistir Filmes | Notícias | Futebol."

              Hope this helps! 🙂

                Virtual URL Google not indexing?

canonical duplicate site structure url issue

Dear all, We have two URLs: The main URL which is crawled both by GSC and where Moz assigns our keywords is: https://andipaeditions.com/banksy/ The second one is called a virtual url by our developpers: https://andipaeditions.com/banksy/signedandunsignedprintsforsale/ This is currently not indexed by Google. We have been linking to the second URL and I am unable to see if this is passing juice/anything on to the main one /banksy/ Is it a canonical? The /banksy/ is the one that is being picked up in serps/by Moz and worry that the two similar URLs are splitting the signal. Should I redirect from the second to the first? Thank you

No index for http version of website

Hi, I've had a message from Google search console to say the sitemap for the http version of my site is tagged as no index. As the https version is indexed, do I need to change the http version to be indexed as well? Do I need to keep the http version of the site in search console alongside the https version, or should I remove it? Advice appreciated!

Does Google avoid indexing pages that include registered trademark signs?

I am suspecting that Google often hesitates to index pages that have registered trademarks on them that are marked with a ®.   For example EGOL® used in the title tag or in the tag at the top of the page. Registered trademarks are everywhere and most retail product pages contain at least one of them.  However, most people use the registered trademark names as text in their writing without adding the registered trademark sign of ®. Have you experienced a problem getting such pages indexed or have you read any articles about how Google treats registered trademarks?

Duplicate page titles and hreflang tags

Moz is flagging a lot of pages on our site which have duplicate page titles. 99% of these are international pages which hreflang tags in the sitemap. Do I need to worry about this? I assumed that it wasn't an issue given the use of hreflang. And if that's the case, why is Moz flagging them as an issue? Thanks.

Is it bad to include google Maps in footer?

We have 5 locations and we were thinking about including a map for each location in the footer.  These would be set-up as no-follow links.  They could potentially enhance user experience but it also increases size of footer.  Right now there are just basic links to pages (sitemap, terms, etc), contact info, social links, and contact form.  If we did the maps it would also include link to the individual location pages.  Not sure if we are doing too much in footer or need to just keep it basic. Thanks for the help!

Punctuation at the Start of Page Titles

one of my clients appears to be using an exclamation mark (e.g. "! Graphic Prints By Mirrorin - Fun Childrens Graphic Prints") and to be completely honest, I have no idea if this is bad practice or if it wont have any affect from an SEO point of view? Any help would be appreciated because it is site wide, therefore if it is an issue I would like to be able to get it sorted asap! Thanks

Hiding Page Titles By Display None

Hi. I am new to this community, and new to SEO as well. A friend asked me to give them suggestions on onsite optimization for their Drupal website. I know page titles are very important, and usually they should be set to H1. (At least I think) This particular website has all their page titles set to H2 and they are using display:none in their stylesheet to hide them for graphic design reasons. What would be the most practical work around for this? We don't want this to appear sketchy in the eyes of the SE's, but putting page titles at the top of their pages really would take away from their graphical design. The second issue is that they use a module called Quicktabs for tabbed product specs on each page. Each tab is actually pulled from a post (called a node in Drupal), so each tab has it's own title that is an H2. So not only are they hiding the main page title, but they are hiding 5 others within the tabs, and their are 6 H2 elements showing up on each product page all set to display:none. Any creative suggestions? Hope that makes sense.... Thank you!

Using commas in the title tag?

Is there a disadvantage/advantage to using commas to separate words in the title tag. Which will be more effective as a title tag: "keyword1 keyword2 - Brand" OR "keyword1, keyword2 - Brand"?
