Can I Improve Organic Ranking by Restrict Website Access to Specific IP Address or Geo Location?

I am targeting my website in US so need to get high organic ranking in US web search.
One of my competitor is restricting website access to specific IP address or Geo location.
I have checked multiple categories to know more. What's going on with this restriction and why they make it happen?
One of SEO forum is also restricting website access to specific location.
I can understand that, it may help them to stop thread spamming with unnecessary Sign Up or Q & A.
But, why Lamps Plus have set this? Is there any specific reason?
Can I improve my organic ranking?
Restriction may help me to save and maintain user statistic in terms of bounce rate, average page views per visit, etc...

Since .com domains are assumed to be targeting the United States by default, you don't need to do anything to target American searchers beyond having a site that is in English and is linked to from other English websites. There are a few reasons you'd ban visitors based on IP/location, but none of them have to do with improving rankings.
These include:
- You have different a different site for international locales (you would want a 301 redirect, not an IP ban)
- You want to prevent forum/blog spam (Cloudflare would be a much better alternative than doing this manually)
- Legal reasons people from a specific location shouldn't be accessing your site or page - the only legitimate reason I can think of to ban large blocks of IPs

Can't crawl website with Screaming frog... what is wrong?
Hello all - I've just been trying to crawl a site with Screaming Frog and can't get beyond the homepage - have done the usual stuff (turn off JS and so on) and no problems there with nav and so on- the site's other pages have indexed in Google btw. Now I'm wondering whether there's a problem with this robots.txt file, which I think may be auto-generated by Joomla (I'm not familiar with Joomla...) - are there any issues here? How to resolve duplicate content issues when using Geo-targeted Subfolders to seperate US and CAN
A client of mine is about to launch into the USA market (currently only operating in Canada) and they are trying to find the best way to geo-target. We recommended they go with the geo-targeted subfolder approach (___.com and ___.com/ca). I'm looking for any ways to assist in not getting these pages flagged for duplicate content. My website (non-adult) is not appearing in Google search results when i have safe search settings on. How can i fix this?
Hi, I have this issue where my website does not appear in Google search results when i have the safe search settings on. If i turn the safe search settings off, my site appears no problem. I'm guessing Google is categorizing my website as adult, which it definitely is not. Has anyone had this issue before? Or does anyone know how to resolve this issue? IP address guideline for 2 sites on same server linking each other.
Hi Guys! I have two websites which link to each other but are on the same server. Both the sites have a great PR and link juice. I want to know what steps shall I take in order to make google feel that both the sites are not owned by me. Like shall i get different IP and different servers for both or something more? My website hasn't been cached for over a month. Can anyone tell me why?
I have been working on an eCommerce site www.fuchia.co.uk. I have asked an earlier question about how to get it working and ranking and I took on board what people said (such as optimising product pages etc...) and I think i'm getting there. The problem I have now is that Google hasn't indexed my site in over a month and the homepage cache is 404'ing when I check it on Google. At the moment there is a problem with the site being live for both WWW and non-WWW versions, i have told google in Webmaster what preferred domain to use and will also be getting developers to do 301 to the preferred domain. Would this be the problem stopping Google properly indexing me? also I'm only having around 30 pages of 137 indexed from the last crawl. Can anyone tell me or suggest why my site hasn't been indexed in such a long time? Thanks

Serving different content based on IP location
I have city centric website. For sake of simplicity, say I only have 2 cities -- City A and City B. Depending on a user's IP address, they will either get City A or City B. Users can change their location through javascript on pages. But there is no cross-linking between cities. By this, I mean that unless you can read or execute javascript, there is no way for you to get from city A to City B. My concern is this: googlebot comes to my site, and we serve them up City A. How does City B get discovered if Googlebot doesn't read javascript? We have an xml sitemap plus plenty of backlinks to City B. Is this sufficient? Should I provide a static link to City B (and vice versa) on the homepage for crawling purposes?
