Etsy.com --Getting link juice through other pages on search results?
-
My sister has a store page on etsy.com where she sells home made crafts. And I want to help her rank higher on google with some of the other etsy stores. So i started to look at the other etsy store pages that are ranking well on google and found that they have a page authority between 48 to 52.
So i looked at the backlinks of the ones ranking well on google with high page authority and found that many of their best links came from the internal search results page on etsy.com, and some only had one link from just an arbitrary etsy.com search page.
I'm thinking this is because another product being listed on the seach page has a high page authority which then passes some of its link juice onto every other product on the page.
But what is interesting is products are always being sold or getting added so even though you are on a search results page that happens to benifit from the link juice of another product the next time the page gets crawled you will be on a different search page.
So i am thinking in order to maintain high page authority to you just have to have a lot of products listed so that there is a greater likely hood that you will find yourself on the same search page as another high authority page.
I have not been doing SEO very long so i would love to hear what others think. I really have no idea, am i on the right track with this?

I'm researching Etsy and I think its eye opening that you remind us Etsy has its own algorithm. I suppose you mean within the Etsy URL site search. But outside of Etsy ~ now that's Google's territory!
Tons and tons of people are complaining that Etsy sales are down significantly. So is this coming because Google has tossed Etsy aside? Or is this because of a change in the Etsy algorithm?
Is there anywhere outside of Etsy that keeps track of Etsys performance in Google search?

Douglas, what keywords are those Etsy pages ranking for? If it's some obscure KW, then most likely it's in a noncompetitive SERP. I used to rank for iphone 3g in eBay.au, but my listing was 2 months old. I kept the ad renewing every 30 days. I set my quantity to 80 and everytime it got close to 5 or 10 left, then I added more quantity. I leveraged eBay's DA to get my listings on Google. But my target wasn't to rank higher on Google. It was to rank higher on eBay. Just by chance, I ranked high in Google. Focus on learning the Etsy algorithm instead because the market for your sister's products are on Etsy and are comfortable with Etsy. It's no different that ebay to me. When selling on comparision shopping engines, Google is an afterthought.

Thanks for the reply.
I edited my post to help clarify. If it still sounds like nonsense just ignore me.

I used to be an Ebay Platinum powerseller ($150,000/mo in sales). eBay has it's own algorithm, Etsy has it's own algorithm, Google has it's own and so on. Googles Page Rank has NOTHING TO DO WITH ETSY'S RANKING. Rand made a WBF a few weeks ago regarding Google PR. I highly suggest you watch it.
Etsy (like eBay) probably uses customer ratings, # of ratings, time left until auction or listing expires. If you want to help your sister rank higher in Etsy, then learn Etsy's algorithm, not Googles.

Link Detox and Link Removal
I have a question about which links to remove after running a link detox from Link Research Tools. First a little back story. I had had an SEO company link building for one of the websites I own. But I have recently stopped working with them. In the last month my rankings have near dropped off the charts. I have just recently gotten access to Google webmaster tools and noticed an unnatural link warning from back in March. So yesterday I ran link detox and it reported 19 toxic links, 120 suspicious links, and 24 healthy links. It's rather obvious that I should remove all of the toxic links. They all from sites that have been deindexed by google. But my question is a about the suspicious links. What should my criteria be for removing them? Am I better off removing them all and leaving my site with only 24 healthy links or should I personally comb through them and remove only the worst of the worst so that I leave my site with a few more links? I'd really like to get the site ready to resubmit to google as soon as I can. Thoughts? yyCOf.png

Does the ratio of external nofollow links to external "do follow" links matter in terms of SERPs ranking?
My site has an external link nofollow:dofollow ratio of approximately 1:1 That is, there are about as many nofollow external links as "do follow" external links. I have an impression that the ratio of no-follow to "do follow" links is a factor in the way that our website shows up in SERPs. I have the impression from reading a variety of sources, and from looking at Seomoz, that calculate "trust" factors as if they mattered (in SERPs), that seem to value a relatively low nofollow:dofollow ratio. Am I correct about that? Thanks,

Does Link Juice Flow From Banner Ads.
Hi Guys I have been checking out a couple of my competitors and noticed that in site explorer there were sites that were passing what I would consider strong amounts of link juice for their banner adverts. I checked the anchor text which was always (Img ALT) Also the links are follow and placed on the home page too. So I wondered how google view this Im sure adverts were supposed to be no follow and if so then do you think there is a benefit from me taking one of these banner adverts to increase the level of link juice passing to my site.

Helpful or Hurtfull / Distributor Links to Our site on every product page?
We have a distributor site with a page rank of 3 on its home page, and 0-1'ish on its product pages. While our manufacturing site is PR 4 getting close to 5... We are thinking about adding a link from our distributors product pages to our manufacturing appropriate material information page. This would be about 10k links spread out among 7 materials. We want to add these links to help our distributor sites customers, but we don't want to hurt our manufacturing site in the process. I personally don't know of any problem this would cause, but our manufacturing site is so important I need to verify adding this many links wouldn't hurt us. Your thoughts and knowledge is appreciated.

Will a mega menu on all pages dilute the link juice?
On our web site (http://www.betxpert.com) we have a mega menu with quite a lot of links in it. I am getting warnings in SEOmoz saying we have far to many links in our pages. But a lot of pages have large menus with a lot of links - are all pages punished for this then? My primary question is: Since the menu is on all pages, the pages linked in the menu will have a link in from all of our pages (200K+ pages) and a lot of these do not have a good ranking. So what I want to know is if the pages linked in the menu will have lower ranking because of the many links in - or is this a good thing? Should I consider setting "nofollow" for som of the links on other pages than the homepage (since this is the page with the best rank)?

Can link juice be passed in an iframe from domain A to domain B
Need to give our web partners our booking form which must be loaded in an iframe calling back to our domain. Is it possible to pass any link juice from their domain loading our iframe back to us. Was thinking of a "Powered by" text link in the form footer, but I'm guessing the link needs to be outside the iframe. Would love to hear any thoughts or workarounds on this.
