I am lucky. Why? Because SEO is my career, passion, and hobby. It is an art and a science, and it requires a careful approach buttressed by the boom of pedantic research. By now you can tell I am a snob. But there are two sides to every coin. I didn’t know how I was going to earn a living more than 10 years ago after I stopped lecturing at the university level. Then I met SEO / SEM, and my previous education in business marketing got in bed with my skillset in scholarly research and writing. A part of me is an arrogant asshole, but when teamed with the right people who actually know what they are doing, I love collaborating with others to launch the best strategy for my clients. I am always immersed in SEO research, and I will never stop. Google plays hard to get, and I am hard to get Google. Not that it relates to my love of SEO, but aside from being enamored with its tricky nature, I also love classic literature, travel, craft beer, fine coffee and tea, Flash Gordon, sports, my cats, sexy cars, Star Wars, architecture, German and French opera, blasphemy, scuba diving, downhill skiing, the smell of gasoline and fresh tar, and volunteering my time with various organizations to make a positive impact on this world before I am struck down by a falling satellite. Things I loathe: rudeness, bigotry, imposters, television, crying babies, all of the penises in ‘Game of Thrones’, Tony Robbins (and that sort), ‘The Secret’ (anything that says you can “think your way to success” versus getting up off your ass and putting in the work), and I dislike heavy street traffic with a passion. Oh, and I don’t like it when women wear lipstick—it gets on your glassware and clothes. Oh, I like 50s kitsch that immortalizes the space age. Let’s be friends!
